S2 Saloon in Brazil - Buy or not?

    Hello everybody.

    I'm a brazilian superfan of S2 models!

Last week, I was looking for a S2 to buy, then I've found a 94 S2 Saloon (1 of 8 imported to Brazil) in São Paulo. So yesterday a got there to see the car and confirm the chep price.

What I've found? A 55k km S2 Gray Saloon which R.I.P in place whit no roof for several years after the creditor bank take back from its debtor owner.

The general general state of body is good. There are all finish details intact. There is no rust in any place. But all the paint is solved by years and years of sun and rain wather.

Eletric is quit perfect whit a small details to check. The engine purrs like a cat, except for the belt tensioner. There is no oil smoke any time! But it have a problem with some sensor, which I couldn't indetify, causing malfunction, lower power and gas excess. There is a small oil leak from anywhere I couldn't found too. The exhaust is quit an original stainless steel with some creased in the "Y". Mufler is all right. Brakes are perfect, but need pads replacement.

In the interior this S2 Saloon have stoped in time. But the leather of the doors and the headrets is dropping - maybe was the sun heat, I think! Perhaps a easy thing to fix!

The suspension and steering are bothers things. There is no efective answer in the steering wheel. It's a loose piece which can move side to other, up and down.. weird! And the suspension is producing some crackles... All 4 tires are defeated and cracking. Things to worry a lot, since it is a primary question of safety!

So, my point in this thread is discuss how good will be if I'll buy this car to make a complete (and slow) restauration to its perfect shape and upgraded it, consider the price of R$ 18.000,00 (near to 7.000,00 dollars) its a equivalente of what I call "Extremely Basicaly Popular and Ordinary Used Brazilian Car" and the fact that I have not a car yet. Just the money that I have and nothing more a cent!

I wold like to take some reviews from owners and experts about this project. It will make my mind cleary and make me sure of what I have to do: By this car as soon as possible or keep the money and invest in some "normal" thing? I need your help, please!

Here is some pics: this car is not so beautifull personally.

Nice find, it's expensive. You'll need to spend more money on it for sure so if it costs you everything you have to buy it you'll never have it as a really nice car. Offer them less money.

The S2 saloon (sedan/limousine) is very rare. Only 306 made for world-wide distribution. (Ref: http://rsmodels.net/index.php?mode=cars&car_id=10 ).

I don't know about Brazil but in Canada, a car that is that rare qualifies for collector license plates which cost much less than the normal license plates.

I am guessing you would spend another US$2000 to$3000 to bring it back to good to excellent condition (assuming that you don't have to paint the car). Some of that would be needed right away, the rest you could do over the next year or two.
