    Instrument Cluster Improvements...

I have wanted to do this for a while now, but have not got the ability! Maybe we could put our heads together to do it if there is interest.

The Idea is this, and I suppose it was Bo that got me thinking when he tried to get S3 style warnings done for the plasmas..

Remove autocheck, onboard computer and warning lights completely

Replace with an LCD panel of the correct size probably running Linux I guess

Write some software to create a GUI somewhat similar to newer Audis

Have the warning lights appear on screen if we cannot get S3 style plasmas done with small relays etc...

Incorporate the Auto Check and on board computer

Add functions such as Boost Gauge in varying guises - Digital, Analogue - Graph... Also EGTs, AFRs etc can be added.

Incorporate logging function, maybe to an SD slot?

When not in use, we could have a screensaver of a picture of your own car or the S2Forum logo

    Any interest?

What I'd love to do is go all the way and have something similar to MMI, but with more technical/performance information (rather than the MMI "lol I'm ****ed, take me to stealer")

Mini-computer tucked away somewhere, big display in centre console, mini-LCD where autocheck currently resides. Mini screen can show faults and any gauge under the sun, big screen can play media from SD-card etc. or give a big-*** diagnostics view.

Of course, the best thing would be something generic, modular and open source - that way it's not just an S2 thing, but could be extended and modified.

I actually drew up some rough designs a while ago.

I know where I'm going with display/media/micro-PC hardware/Linux, but I'd need input from Prj and/or etc. when it came to reading sensor information.

Anyway, potential for a huge project there...

Agreed It would not be a little project!

I looked into i a while back, and found that you can get LCDs with linux built onto the board which was why I was thinking that way.

Generic would be good yeah, not sure if it would be practical though? There would be a whole lot more work to make it work for multi vehicle! This would work for S2 and Ur S4/6 though

Input from Paul and PRJ would be great re sensor inputs etc, not to mention they are both 01100011100101 gurus

Oh, I'd like it to interface with VEMS too, for obvious reasons

Vag com is a neat idea too.

Well, thing is, while we can't possibly implement it ourselves for every vehicle out there, what we can do is make it as easy as possible for the owner of another model to use our system as a starting point and "plug in" the differences.

Given that, probably worth seeing if someone else has come before us and written some stuff we can reuse!

Found that - looks like it might be gathering dust, however. Might be worth looking at (seems primarily ICE but also has instruments).
