    Formula Student - UBRacing

    Hi all,

just thought i'd share what im doing when im not touching the s2!

At uni we run a project where we build and race a car every year. Basically a single seater with a 600cc Yamaha R6 engine. Theres lots and lots of regulations and we start a new car each year. here's the teams website http://www.ubracing.co.uk

We've just started the chassis which is a t45 steel chassis, laser profiled tubes and jig

lots of work left as you can see! should have the chassis tacked together completely tomorrow all being well.

My main area of work is in the engine development, spec'ing my own cams this year as the engine has to run with a 20mm restricter and obviously doesnt flow very well from it!

Were lucky to have a brilliant engine cell just for ourselves

here's the throttle body, i cant claim credit for that but its very cool. 2 barrels so when at wot you get no restriction on the flow.

the inlet is laser sintered by a top F1 team :-)

We compete in the UK and germany. If anyone is near silverstone in july time (cant remember the exact date) you should come along and look. Free to get in and i promise youd be impressed with the level of engineering!

were also looking for sponsorship when ever we can find it, whether it be goods, service, advice or funding

I'll post more pics as we go along!

Chassis came off the jig yesterday. Minimal spring which is very promising! now onto jigging wishbone mounts etc....fun times!

you guys have a sick setup....when i did it, we built with no jig, dyno, or anything. we built our 2005 car with less than 8k budget

                    keep up the good work!

some of you may be interested in this.

This is the result of my final year project, developing the valve timings and profiles for the restricted yamaha R6 engine. through dyno testing, ricardo wave simulation, motion analysis etc, these are the finished reground cams i got at lunch today

They're already in the engine and fired up to check. Mapping and full test on thursday

all in the service from Piper Cams. Not sure exactly on the coating but its the process they use for all their bike race cams
