  • Agreed Value, Low mileage Insurance for my Modified S2

    My S2 is now my second car while I smoke around in a diesel A6 so I've been looking to change my insurance to include agreed value and low mileage (approx 3000 a year) and cover the fact that the car is modified.

    Bearing in mind that my renewal for the car being my main car doing 12k a year has come through at £578 I was hoping to be able to get something at least a couple of hundred quid cheaper but the best I've done is £515 from Adrian Flux for agreed value, 3k a year and modifications covered after telling them I didn't want all the extras they were trying to add on.

    One company even refused to quote me as the S2 isn't old enough for them to regard it as a classic and isn't modified enough to qualify for their custom policies. This despite their web site saying they will cover almost all cars and situations. :corey:

    Anybody know a decent insurance company that will offer a good price on insurance for a sensible 43 year old man with a 300hp S2 that lives in the garage most of the time.

    Cheers

            Try Lancaster Insurance with their online quote engine - via phone the best they could do with my subtly modified RS2 was £3k but online I got it for £515. That was for 7,500 miles, garaged, no agreed valuation but I can add it for £30 and all the pictures. They are somewhat limited as to what modifications you have, but worth a shot. Saved me nearly £500 over the next best quote!

              No option for uprated turbo with Lancaster so they're out I'm afraid.

                  I was hoping you might be right so I sent Ollie a PM. Here is his reply;

                  Hi Chris,

                  apologies but as things stand now we do not have any facility via our specialist schemes to offer an agreed value policy. We were given this facility for most of 2010 but it has been removed again unfortunately. Very few insurers offer agreed value policies on modiofied cars any more. The only agreed valuation policies we offer are for long term customers or via a classic scheme which unfortunately your car would not fit under.

                    I have some good news - or at this stage very promising. If this does work out, it will benefit people with cars that have modifications thus excluding them from Classic Car policies that offer agreed value.

                    To date, the only company that I could find that offered AVP for my car was Adrian Flux.
                    On Saturday I obtained a quote from them. I declared all mods, asked for AV of £25000.
                    Price was £845 with £750 excess on the policy.

                    However, whilst trawling through internet pages looking for an alternative, I came across this site;

                    http://www.lwib.co.uk/schemes/

                    Looking at their page, it featured an R8 for the performance car section and a typ85:tup: for the modified section. I had high hopes and e-mailed them (office shut on Saturday).
                    This morning, I received a call from them asking for some further details. A few hours later, they came back to me and offered me the following quote.
                    Price was £730 with £300 excess for £25000 agreed value.

                    The bad news at this moment is that with the information they have they can only offer me agreed value of £15000. As a positive, this did lower the premium to £545.
                    However, the higher £25000 could still be agreed subject to submitting an independant valuation.

                    Livingstone Warner Insurance Brokers are a small family run business with one of the partners, Jason being a car enthusiast (or anorak) himself. I found their service very friendly and professional and would suggest anyone looking for such a policy should call them for a quote.

                    Cheers
                    Chris

                    PS. Forum/Club members get 25% discount which could account for my quotation.

                        Rather better than Sky, who de-valued mine from £6k to £5k.

                        Part of that was due to their Forum liaison leaving.

                        I'll have to get all the receipts together for next year. Expect to have about £15k in actual receipts and £10k for secondhand parts...

                              I've got my S2 and a Porsche 994 insured via Lancaster and have an agreed value of £12k for the 944.

                              I'm paying about £300 a year to Lancaster to cover the S2 for 3000 miles pa, parked on a drive is SW London.
