    Alternator brushes

    Hey guys

I have a 99 reg VW T4 van and the battery light is on. I think I need to replace the brushes or at least thats first point of call as its cheaper.

I have taken the plug off the alternator and removed the outer plastic cover. Anyone know what to do next? There is a vid on you tube for doing it but the alternator is a different style. Mine has another plastic bit inside of it which I assume I have to take off to get to the brushes. This bit when removed also has the plastic casing the plug clips into attached to it.

Any ideas from the gurus out there??

    Thanks
    Chris

I can't help you with finding the bushes on your particular alternator but if they look ok or new ones don't solve the problem you could check if the voltage regulator in the alternator needs replacing before changing the whole alternator. You'd probably need it back in the car with engine running and check voltage with a multimeter to see if the volt reg is the problem.
