@acidburn - that is ALL wrong sir
The 1989-1996 Audi Coupe is B3 platform
The 1992-1996 Audi 80 (Saloon and Avant) is B4 platform
Technically speaking - the S2 Coupe is B3Q platform and S2 Avant/Saloon is B4Q because of use of quattro drivetrain... other non-S2 quattro models are also B3Q and B4Q.
'Type 89' is a crappy / rough designation that came with first B3 platforms in March 1986... saloon first, then curvy coupe shortly after. Those first B3 cars have a model designation that starts with '89' - hence the 'Typ89' lingo.
Later B3 saloons had model codes starting '8A'
The B3 coupes have model codes starting '8B'
The B4 machines have codes starting '8C'
All of the above belong to the Audi 80/90 family (depending on territory and marketing lingo by Audi)
From 1996 onwards the Audi 80 was phased out when the Audi A4 took over in this size of platform - guess what the next model codes are - yes indeed '8D' - here endeth this mornings reading
