    A6 vs S6(urs4) differences?

I should be getting my hands on an Audi A6 Avant (c4) TDi 5 cylinder quattro.

Other than the engine obviously, I was wondering what the differences were between the S6(urs4) and the TDi 5 pot Quattro.

And I was wondering what bits I could fit from an S6 to the TDi? Both cosmetically, as well as any bits under the skin.

    cheers!

The S6 and the A6 are very close outwardly. However, the S6 has flared front fenders (wings) and therefore the bumper is also wider than the A6. Not sure what headlights the A6 has but I think the TDi Avants got the same headlights as the S6 because the turbo diesel intercooler is probably in the same location as the S6 and, therefore, A6 fogs in the bumper grill corners would block flow to the intercooler.

So if you wanted to make an A6 avant look like an S6, you would need S6 fenders/wings and an S6 bumper.

Inside, the seating is different but not dramatically. Change them or leave the A6 (especially if the A6 was a final run version and has the alcantara inserts in sport seats). The gauge cluster ("clocks") faces are light grey in the S6 and black (with white lettering/numerals) in the A6. You could swap an S6 cluster in.

Wheels are easy. Badges could be "fixed".

Not sure about the diesel brakes. The only diesel avant I have seen (only one known in Canada) were single piston G54s, not the HP2s that the UrS6 would have come with in the UK and Europe. (We got Girling 60 front brakes in North America).

There is one guy here in Canada that is taking an S6 with a dead engine and swapping in a 1.9L TDi engine from a neu Beetle. (no A6s or 100s with the 2.5L TDi engine were imported into in North America) (There is the odd one that came in as "Settlers Effects" by persons moving from Europe to North America)

    Did I answer your question?

the rev counter wouldn't read right in a diesel me thinks. Ow and the rear reflector panel could be swapped from a S6.

The rev counter actually reads fine... I've got S6 clocks in mine. You need to swap the trip computer module to put things right for consumption etc...

S6 and 2.5TDI intercoolers are identical Headlights on all A6 C4 models should be identical, because in-bumper fogs were changed to headlight fogs during the C4 facelift.

After changing front fenders and bumpers, front wheel bearing housings need to be changed, as they are wider on S6 models(AAN/AEC). Also the rear panel is different on A6 and S6.

What's the seating difference between A6 and S6 if both have sports seats?

I would personally not change the front wheel bearing housings to push the wheels out unless there was a brake advantage to do so. Otherwise, I would stay with the OE housings and use a spacer or wheel with less offset to push edge of the wheel/tire outwards to fill the wider fender space. Here is some wheel bearing housing information:

As for the seats, I imagine A6 sport seats would be very close to the UrS6 seats. No C4 A6 cars came to North America with sport seats so I am only going on photos I have seen of European/UK C4 A6s with sport seats (typically in the "quattro" jacquard fabric)

if the intercoolers are the same, will I be able to fit an uprated intercooler designed for te urs4/S6? as a direct fit?

The good thing with an A6, there are no mods to be made to install an S6 steering wheel. To install an S6 steering wheel in an UrS4, it is more challenging:

Although the headlights are the same housing and lens, some dont have foglights in the headlamp. Im guessing the quattro's do though.

I think the turbo diesels have the fogs in the headlight housing, because of the intercooler blockage that bumper-mounted fog light would cause.

I know this is true for a C4 100 turbo diesel quattro. I bought the headlights from a 93 100 turbo diesel quattro avant. They included the fogs, just like my 93 C4 S4. In addition, they had the height adjustment motors.

If the cooler fits in the same location as original, then probably yes. If it's a FMIC then you would need to check, as S6 bumper has a lot more space than regular A6 bumper.

Without doubt... but the standard is allegedly good for 230TDi bhp and probably more.
