PC question: whats better, a system image or a backup to restore a pc?

...am expecting an image would be better but looking for other opinions.

Scenario is a new HP laptop not shipped with windows discs and just onboard software to manage an e-recovery.

    What's the best route?

    Cheers

depends, if u install a lot of third party software, then make an image of the partition which has the OS and the software. U should save time installing the third party software after a OS reinstall. And always backup important data to an external HDD or smth. U can also monitor your hard drive'es performance, i've been saved a few times, because they didnt fail on me unnoticed, so i had time to backup.
