Those Italians were some crazy inventive guys those days.. makes me think about the Lancia Delta ECV in full kevlar and triflux engine design...

Bring back some kind of Group C touringcars please!

Triflux bij Lancia. It utilizes exhaust valves on both sides of the cilinderhead and centrally placed intake valves. Automotive porn on it's best.

This is the same concept Apfelbeck used on BMW motorbikes reaching ultimate cross over flow and therefore the highest volumetric efficiency ever seen!

      Impossible to explain without pics:

I think they homologated full carbon rims for the Delta ECV as well. Who was first? the Japanse? No they weren't...

Rusty.... the car it's actually a F1 car!
That Pro-Car 164 was always intrguing me.....

The 164 Pro-Car was built to race on the Silhouette or "S" Championship that was meant to go alongside with the F1 Championship.

The motor it's actually a F1 engine, the Alfa Romeo was supplying at the time (1987) the twinturbo motors to the Ligier team and the development of the 10 pots F1 motor started in 1985 (so well before turbo motors banning from F1) the interesting thing it's that Alfa Romeo was the first brand to took the 10 pots pattern....
Wich makes that motor the first 10 cylinders F1 Motor, before Honda and Renault.
Unfortunately the motor never raced in F1 althoug it was fitted on a Formula 1 chassis eventually....
The bodywork of AR 164 Pro-Car hides the chassis of a....

            Brabham!

Brabham BT57 1988 2 Procar. Built as a prototype for Alfa Romeo with a V10 engine and Alfa 164 body.

            source here:http://www.oldracingcars.com/brabham/
            and here:http://www.jonathangreaves.com/page5.htm

Alfa Romeo was then aquired by FIAT that already owned Ferrrari and..... you can take your own conclusions (sic!)

            Specs of that motor:

            3.5 L 10 cylinders 583 bhp

The last development in 1986 reached:

            620 bhp at 13300 rpm

Not bad for a NA F1 motor in 1988..... IMHO....

            Italian motor porn.....or genius...

            Yes the triflux it's art!

So was the supercharger+turbo motor of the Delta S4....
So was the Common Rail system....

Believe or not FIAT let expiring the "patent" for the charger+turbo engine....
Hence Volkswagen went right ahead with the 1.4 l motor of the Golf GT... free of charge!
Believe or not the FIAT/Magneti Marelli had at three options on the Common Rail system developed on road vehicles from them.

Producing and sell the common rail systems to other manufacters....
Let the others producing it and take some royalties..... 10 euros more then enough I reckon!)
            Sell the patent....

The final choice from the FIAT management was to sell the patent to BOSCH for few millions of euros don't remember now the amount but something in the order of 10/11 millions euros......
