    Cam belt change

Given my recent attempts at diy car maintenance and soon to be getting a S2 well past its scheduled change Im deciding against doing a cam belt change myself. Does anyone know of a decent trust worthy garage within the merseyside/chester area to have this changed and roughly what the damage would be for the usual belt, pulley and water pump? Thanks.

You could try QRSport, which is near you.

Call 01829 771165 for Car Service, Repairs and MOT in Chester from QRS Auto Service

The parts for the belt change are not expensive in themselves....it's the work taking everything off the front of the car and whilst you are there replacing the a/c belt, power steering belt, thermostat etc.....oh and the special tools to tighten the crank. There is plenty of good material on the forum.

I replaced all the above and spent ~£120 on parts, nearly the same on tools but my time was free! It took over a day as the parts were not conducive to coming undone!

    Cheers,

    John

        Hi, thanks for the responses.

May investigate changing myself it looks a lot less frustrating and compact to my parting puma at least. Looked at QRSports prices and its a bit more than i was hoping ideally right after spending on a "new" old car.

WabTheKing how much would a cam belt and water pump change be at your garage roughly and if i pre booked it in for a time how long does it take as its a bit far from anywhere i know so id probably be waiting around.

        Thanks.

if its a 3B I have the tool you are welcome to come round one day i'll give you a hand, i'm in staffordshire. Other than DIY in the NW Wab is your best bet for sure

Its about a 3 hour job I'd say, not rushing although a pro with a lift could probably do it in 2. you MUST to replace the crank sprocket & crank pulley bolt, adviseable to change the water pump & other belts at the same time.

Its a ABY I believe. Although I've looked at a few recently so can't be sure which is which until I review it. Its a 95 with 6 speed box so does that mean its ABY? Or did they continue to mix engine codes with later ones?

              If it's 6 speed, it's ABY.

Hi, I can recommend Steve at this place, not an Audi specialist but a very good general mechanic, he will use oem spec parts, usually from TPS

Delayed response but Im currently in Liverpool. Been looking about today for the parts to do this myself in the next couple of weekends. Iv found the post about parts no. required for this and have found some of them and asked about some others. When you say the crank sprocket do you mean these Crank Pulley - 034 105 263A or the cam belt tensioner and by pulley bolt the Crank Bolt - 034 105 229A? Also is it worth changing the dohc cam chain as its near 170k mile?

                    Thanks.
