    MOT rant

Have to say i'm a bit pi%%ed this evening. Put the car in for its MOT today and it failed on the wierdest things:

    both sidelights are blue
brake pipes are not adequately secured in the engine bay
nearside breakpipe not secured effectively though to be fair this one is a legit fail

The sidelights are the multi-led replacements i put on the vehicle about 3 years back when i changed to HID's and despite me trying to argue with the guy that they were a brilliant white he was having non of it

The brakepipes in the engine bay have always been secured the same way using the oem multiblock.

it turns out the guy worked in a local audi dealership years back and did his aprenticeship on coupes etc, knew it was my pride and joy, could see that I had changed the topmounts, arb bushes front and rear and cleaned and re-cera-tec'd my brembos and commented on its condition but i just felt he was being really picky.

was more annoyed to find i have a water leak somewhere after having a nose underneath while it was on the ramp too some days i bloody hate this car

That is a pain eh David! When i bought the RS2 it was on a failed MOT. Had 3 pages to sort out... when I put it into my friendly local for MOT (he is pretty strict but fair) he disagreed with most of it, added a split steering gaiter to the list, and my estimated £600 repair bill came in around £150.

Point being, MOTs seem very inconsistent nowadays, find a good one and stick with 'em! Sounds like if you stick the old bulbs in just to satisfy him and ask him to justify & recommend a solution to the odd engine bay brake pipe failure (so he realises he's being a moron and drops it) you should be able to get it though... failing that can you complain to VOSA?

It does sound like he was very picky, but I'd be happy if all I had to sort in order to get an MOT was a couple of bulbs and securing a couple of brake pipes! lol

I got to agree with the sidelights, led's are blue and a pet hate of mine. Whats this nonsense about brake lines in the engine bay, clips missing or does he just dislike the way Audi did it?

i think that his view was that there was too much movement in the lines and they would rub - not that they were anywhere except the one on the strut which i accept was a fail item.

What i dont understand it that the sidelights have been through 3 previous MOT's without issue and are white...i bought them to match up as close as possible the HID's which are as natural daylight as i could get because i hate the blue ones.

You want to try dealing with the nobsters day in day out!

I've had the same with the side lights. I said can you show what colour they should be? walks over to some Honda bobbins and hits the side lights " there you go" I said I thought the law was white front side lights? "yes" well those are yellow!!!!! he backed down in the end!:corey:

Had one the other day, failed on loads inc key blade loose. When I looked the prat had snapped it! He snaps it then fails it!

Does seem a bit ridiculous with the bulbs, did he fail it on those before he had turned them on and see they actually illuminate white? Any idea where the water leak is?

Was this a different garage to last year David or a new tester. Sounds like a tool to me. If the OEM brake pipe bracket is in good condition, I can't see how it can possibly be a fail. You can appeal to the DVLA or wotnot can't you...

                Good luck.

                Cheers,

                Steve

As a tester myself i see a load of car failed on stupid things that are not failures at all- a lot of the testers are *****- I got so fed up with having cars failed for pathetic stuff I got my test licence!!!
If you feel that the guy was being picky or wrong ask him for a VT17 form (appeal against failure sheet) you would be amazed how this changes the decision!!!
