    Time to tighten up!

Hi, before I go ahead and tighten up my front wishbone nuts I'd like to know how everybody else does it.
I've fitted Powerflex bushes to the bones.

I've read that before you torque them the full weight of the car should be on the wheels.
But I've also read that if you have poly bushes then you can tighten nuts without the full weight of car on wheels.

    Which method is correct?

Lets have a vote on this one please.

    Cheers.

It makes no difference with polly bushes as they will turn in the wishbone. The weight of the car should be used with standard bushes as the outer steel shell won't spin in the wishbone, which could result in the rubber being torn over time.

Poly bushes can be tightened in any position, just remember to copper grease them well or they'll sqweak & squeal.

Rubber ones must be tightened with the wishbone in the loaded position - that doesn't mean the weight of the car has to be one them as it can be hard to tighten the bolts when the car is on its wheels unless you've got a lift or drive up ramps - just that when you tighten them up the wishbone is held at the angle it will be when the car is back down on the wheels.

Yep, in the past I have just jacked up under the hub while the car is on stands to torque up so tat thw wishbone is basically in the same position as it would be when on the ground...

          Thanks lads for that.

          All nice and tight now.

Can't wait to get her out of the garage, and put some miles on.
A few smaller jobs and and I should be just about done, for this year at least

          Cheers.

Make sure you do them to the correct trorque and angle. I had one come loose after Combe last year... another lesson learned through track testing
