Best thing to do is to get it running right as stock, usually with a chip and then you know that it's going to take the power. Main thing really is the chassis and brakes, as there aren't too many cars that are too sorted in the chassis area. With the intercooler and exhaust uprated on a stock turbo, you'll see 290bhp and 330ftlbs, so it's not exactly a chore You can then source RS2 gubbins and get that on the car, with a chip, and get 350-370. There are plenty of options that are a little more involved but RS2 is basically bolt-on and provent many, many times. HTH

Sorry for another newbie question but, the power figures being quoted, are they flywheel or at the wheel figures? And what sort of loss is there accross the drivetrain? If I remember rightly my rs4 is about 80 bhp loss accross the drivetrain at the current 450 bhp at the flywheel!

        They are flywheel figures.

From what I read anything above that ideally wants to have some steel rods thrown in the engine.

I second what Andy says, get the chassis and brakes right first, then worry about more power. A tired s2 / cq can easily swallow £2k to get it cornering and stopping nicely.
350-370 is easy RS2 territory all day long with all bolt on bits, and with proven "off-the-shelf" chipsets available from a few different sources.

you're definately in the right place on this fourm though, if you don't mind getting your hands dirty theres nothing you won't be able to do with other members help & advice

I have first hand experience with this part but its worth it.

Do you really want to be going faster when you cant stop or turn to match the performance? but in all fairness...your S2 might be in great condition!!

regarding brakes in was thinking ap 4 pots with say 330mm discs and ds2000 pads
              braided lines through out

for the rear ap twin pots with 280/300mm on the rear

Unless you have cash burning a hole in your pocket the Porsche caliper and S8 disc setup works very well with good pads.

There is a setup people use on the rear, the AP stuff would require another caliper to operate the handbrake

Don't use the Hi Spec ones that do both as their shockingly crap
