bottom line is. . .
any car beats any car in a race, its all down to the driver and how well a road suit a certain car!
the only way you would know for sure is get same driver in both cars and compare! so if i saw a r8 about, id try play with it anyway you never know the outcoem untill its over!Comment

And I completely agree with this, through years of owning cars and being in the scene I've lost track of the amount of times I've been told some guys RS turbo thrashed a 360 Modena or a TVR of some description.
I've had a nova turbo that would probably give a R8 a good seeing too but then thats half the weight and wouldn't do much over 160 tops as its got no grunt at that rpm.Comment

I drove an R8 V8 last week - it was a 10-min track experience that Laura bought for me last christmas.
Even though the instructor kept asking me to shift at 5k (I ignored him the last few laps) I really enjoyed it, very comfortable and quiet in the cabin - sounded awesome when you open the throttle - and just very easy to drive. I usually hate driving a car I don't know but I felt at home in the R8 right away. Loved the 6-speed gated shift as well, only thing I'd say is I would have liked a little more feeling to the senses. It was a little sterile compared to the RS2.
In my opinion, the RS2 felt faster - probably because of that torque surge in the mid range, whereas the NA V8 was very progressive in it's delivery. Going by the speedo there probably wouldn't be much in it (at least to 100). Certainly I'd say, the R8 was much easier to drive fast, so don't feel too ashamed if someone kicks your ***** in one

An S2 with just a chip would not stand much a chance. Here are some magazine numbers for 100-200kmh from road tests by German magazines:
S2 SMS Revo (286hp): 24.8s
S2 tuned by Mohr (260hp): 25.5s
R8 V8: 11.0s for the fastest and 12.8s for the slowest (R-Tronic tested by Sport Auto)
The MTM S2 RSR with 428hp/485nm and 1471kg would beat the R8V8 with a 100-200 time of 10.3s (by Sport Auto). It could threaten a R8V10 cabrio (9.7s), but that MTM engine involved far more than just a chip.1995 RS2 on Alcohol (6.8sec 100-200km/h)
