A new engine maybe

We have two of them although they are the later models - a 2002 & a 2006, both tdis. We've had the older one for about 7 years now and have taken it from about 15k to 96k miles and it has been very reliable. I think in that time it's had a new battery, a rear silencer, brakes of course, a couple of drop links and two rear shocks but that's about it. Engine, box and running gear seam solid enough.
Does about 47 mpg on a run and can carry 7 people or half a transit load of stuff. I think the engine in the 96 model is similar to the 2002 - 1.9 tdi but it's probably a 90hp 5-speed not the 115hp 6-speed in the later versions. The 2006 is a 2.0 140hp tdi but it's not as economical as the good old 1.9.

I don't suppose it will be costing you very much to buy at that age and mileage.

Well it was going to be just over a grand but..... After winning on eBay and ringing the bloke today, maybe not. Spoke to arrange a time and day to collect and as I was about to put phone down said " pay pal on collection ok isn't it" ( advert said cash or pay pal) bloke then moans about charges ect and wants cash!!! Wouldn't normally be a problem but skint at moment so was going to use credit card :-( then sell the wife's bora to cover the cost. If we use pay pal no cost from our side and if we pay as a gift none for him either but he won't have it, so looks like that idea down the drain :-(

Thanks for the replys, they sound a good deal. Just need to find a cheap on to get the wife's carrier on the up and away.

Blimey i would have thought about £6-700 maybe £800 for one that year in better than average condition and a good history and lots of parts replaced. Whats the budget and where are you located? Did you have a look at the pm i sent you?

My parents had a Ford Galaxy (exactly the same car and engine as the sharan). They bought it with under 10K on the clock and ran it to 139K then gave it to my cousin. We were going to sell that for £700 if my cousin didnt want it. It was the top line ghia gls something or other. oh and it was a 1998 model. Couldnt fault it, good on fuel and brilliant work horse for carrying people, bikes, rubbish and what ever else. Only down side is the weight and size of the seats if you take them out.

I ve been looking for one of those for a few weeks, same price range if anyone around stoke knows of a good un, mrs needs a bigger car for our holidays, better than going in the Disco as the child seats arent far enough apart to stop the fighting ( ages 3,4 n 5, we're nuts!!!)
