    Impact guns do's dont's

Just about to purchase an impact gun, and was wanting some user info from seasoned pro's.
Borrowed GT500's Snap On recently for small job, but I'd just like your views.

    Cheers.

Do use the correct impact gun sockets

Do NOT use the gun to remove OR install the crank bolt during a timing belt change.

We have used loads of different ones at work, and the only ones that seem to last are the snap on ones.
If your useage warrants spending decent money, Id go for that.
An air powered gun and compressor are a slighly cheaper alternative, if not as portable.

I use an 18v Snap on almost daily, double the price of the likes of sealy and clarke but worth the extra IMO. A friend of mine has a clarke does the job but Snap on Knocks spots of it for Torque and battery life.

Snap-On all the way, you DO get what you pay for in this case!

I agree, but if you can get an early version of the latest gun, the clip that holds the battery is NOT green, they are supposed the be identical but there not, the early ones have more power. We have 6 and this the case with all of them.

I have a mid range bluepoint air impact gun which is ok but seems to jump around alot in my hands when gunning off something tight like its unbalanced or something so thats power wasted.
I too have a new snap-on 18v 1/2 inch jobbie which is the best tool i bought for a while tis a bit heavy but theres no need to oil it daily, no grubby air line to tangle or potentially drag on bodywork, good charger, two batteries and it works very well.

If not snap-on then ingersoll rand, i really like their air tools and some goodun's pop up on egay every now and then.

Oil it regularly and bleed the compressor of water every week and the above last and work well.

                      Dave

Also with air tools they cant be overloaded and possibly burnt out like the battery powered versions.

Don't ever pull the trigger with a socket on it when not undoing/doing something up, it can fire the socket!
