I've got some standard avus rims with tyres I'm selling, their quite tidy and there are 5.

What brakes does the car run ?

Funnily enough, I'm selling my 17s with tyres

The dampers could have been adjusted to their stiffest setting. A set of stock springs will help but will also raise the car up 25mm or so and they do look nice lowered. Stock RS2 springs are the same as S2 aircon springs btw

Standard seats aren't very supportive, so TBH, I'd stick with the RS2 Recaros but up to you, you'll get plenty of ££ for them to help towards stock springs, dampers and either 6 or 17" wheels.

What tyres have you got on the 18" as that makes a big difference, I've just gone from 17" to 18" and 0 difference in ride quality

FYI....my avant runs bilsteins and standard springs....absorbs a lot but does give good road holding...that maybe the RS2 FARB and whiteline RARB...but the suspension is firm without being painful....a good compromise...just my 2p's worth....

My mate is breaking an S4 so will have a look and see what wheels are on that. Ive got RS4 replica wheels on it at the moment which are 18s and have 225/40s on them.

Im not a fan of " chav " wheels and have always in the past keep with standard wheels.

They are 225/40/18s but did have 235/40/17s before i changed the wheels. The rolling radius looked a fair bit bigger than the 17s

The springs is the main thing im going to sort first. I know it will handle better with the springs and dampers that are already on it but i just want a nice fairly comfy ride that you dont feel every bump. It does look nice lowered but id rather have it 25mm higher and a more comfy ride. Maybe 10 years ago i would of been well happy with it but now im just boring i guess

When you have the springs off, adjust the dampers to a known setting. IIRC, they have 4 turns of adjustment, I run mine 0,5 from fully tight but a more suitable setup for stock springs is going to be 1.5-2 turns from fully tight. Don't expect a comfy ride on stock springs though, they're still pretty stiff and will bounce about a bit.

Ok thanks for the adjustment tip and hopefully stock springs will help a bit. Can i not just buy standard dampers as well ?

You could, but they are annoying expensive, but S2 springs with new RS2 shocks, with RS2 front ARB, rear Neuspeed ARB, with 8 x 17" rims with 225/45/17, with fresh factory bushes all round will not disappoint on comfort, while still retaining as much handling as you'll need seven days a week.

                          Kind regards.

Fair play. No need to try and railroad you into oem wheels so.

Choice of tyres can make a big difference, the sidewalls in particular.
IME its not so much the rim size but the weight - most OEM wheels are very heavy, ALL crappy chinese reps are very heavy. Have to say I have no reduction in ride quality switching between my OEM 16" avus on 225/50 RE050s and 18" BBS CH on 245/35 SC3s - There is only a ~ 0.5kg weight difference between each rim & tyre combo.

Given you bought it for one half of naff all - you should be quids in with a sale as this seems like a rare avant that would be well sorted with some tidying up...

Then again - tis your motah and it could be made less harsh in the suspension department with some wise spending choices.
