my aspect ratio at the mo is 50 and these are 55, but as my car's not lowered it shouldn't be much of a problem? readin a few reviews online and they sound like a good tyre. Reckon they're worth it? tis a good price IMO
Good old Save On Tyres, and their part-worns.

Winter tyres need at least 4mm tread to work properly, so as said above those tyres are basically worn out. I guess they could be better than summer tyres, but I wouldn't take the risk.
Also, they are 225 wide, so that is far from ideal.

Ok fair enough, it sounds like second hand winter rubbers aren't the best option, and new ones are outta my budget. Cheers for the advice.

Then back to fiddly snow chains again.

I just had a quick flick through the trusty owners book, and it says only to fit chains to the front wheels? surely it'd be better to get two pairs, seen as though i'm running on some pretty rubbish summer tyres, (Champiros) I imagine this to be hogwash no? whats the point of having AWD if the only wheels to have traction are the front ones?

Most of this is just so I can keep the local gendarmes happy if they do a spot check, but also might come in handy if I actually go and get myself stuck in the white stuff too.

Don't go to the mountains in wintertime on summertires. Not for the Gendarmes sake - but your own - and for me and my family. It's not legal, and for a good reason. You might wanna stop sometimes too. Please.

I hope you find a good set of rubbers for the trip, it should be possible to source some 16" B5 wheels - they should work me think?
        Cheers, Torben
