Guys this has been probably bought up a few times before in the past but my last service on the S2 there was 2 advisories and they were heavily corroded front and rear subframes. Silly question here but can they be refurbished and if so any where up here in the north east or is anyone a specialist on the forum?? Any advise would be hugely appreciated. Many thanks in advance

Cheers pal it will be useful to know how the car feels to am guessing you are replacing all the bushes so it should feel pretty good

hi anth.
there's a blasters down by the queen alexander bridge(north side). then you could por15 if your leaving the bushes in or powdercoat if you take everything out/off.
my advice would be to buy a decent pair of subframes and get them done. then its a swop over on the car rather than a few weeks lead time.
then sell your subframes on. if it turns out they're badly rusted they would have been no good to you anyway and an even longer lead-time.
i've done quite a few myself now. it isn't fun!!

Cheers Andy il have to get it on the ramps and get a good luck if its rusted it should be still solid but il check that place out beside QA bridge
The other problem is where the hell do you get a reasonable pair of front and rear sub frames!!!

you'll get a half decent idea from looking at it but you'll never really know till you get it off and have a right good go at it with a screwdriver/hammer. the deep rust tends to lurk in the bracket areas, especially the rear diff brackets. there's little water traps in them.
once you've had it blasted if it isn't too bad you should be able to get a few pin holes sorted but much worse then repairs could be costly and add time on.

Aby coupe: yes
For sale: I'm afraid not, they're going back into my coupe asap.
If the car is your daily driver it would be ideal for you to source a set somewhere as it can be time consuming to get new parts, get it blasted etc etc. The subframe bushings are a proper pita to remove without access to a press so factor that time in too.
Also if you go down that road be sure to double check the front one is off an s2 rather than a v6 coupe. Fat Audi 80 detailed the differances here recently and the v6 one isn't a direct fit.ShaneComment

Yes, there are some V6 ones (possibly cabriolet ones) that have stiffening webs on the inside which foul the downpipe. There is a sticky thread on them in the suspension section.

S2 been to Newcastle Audi today for examination of front and rear sub frame as am getting audi uk involved as I thought both sub frames were obsolete but as it turns out they are not. Front sub frame obviously brand new from germany would be £800 rear sub frame they dont make any more but they have a project manager onto the case and going to come back with some solutions hopefully positive!! As a few on here probably gather am keen on getting this done and if needs be i will put brand new on the front with good bushes problem is audi are saying that mine are so bad that its actually dangerous to drive the car!!! Not want i want to hear when times are hard - 2 car taxs due a RR service due and A4 service in 3k time not good!! Will keep you's informed of any further developements

I'd be very cautious what a dealer tells you, they just tried fleecing my mate of a few grand for MOT work on his 05 plated A4 S line, I took it elsewhere and turned out it needed brake pads only.
The subframes can rot like mad, I have what looks like a pukka front 6 speed one, obviously I'll know if that is the case once its off the car but it would be £60, I can even have them blasted then powder coated if you wish.Comment
