How to remove seized tie rod adjusters

    As the title states:
Anyone got any tips on how to remove the old seized adjusters from the tie rods?

Got some gooduns' from Bambridge that need to go on asap.

    Thanks
    Sean

And a pipe wrench. I *just* had to do this 3 weeks ago. One side was fine - just needed a spray and soak of "Liquid Wrench" (a rust dissolving solvent). However, the other side needed heat from a propane plumbers torch to get it going.

BTW, you *DO* have to get the lock nuts loose too. Preferrably first.

Yeah i've had to do this a few times so i've got a few spare sets all freed up, fire helps. Just take your time and remember they are expensive if you break them.

If you're upgrading to Kev's adjusters, weld a lever onto the old ones - the heat of the weld will free it off easy

I think they are lefthand thread too. From memory trackrod end to adjuster is standard thread, and adjuster to trackrod on car is left hand thread.

If you are removing them in a few days I would start soaking them in penetrating fluid just now.

                  Then heat as required.

Make sure you are turning the right way!

Thanks Andy, but they are still on the car and it is being driven daily.

I will be taking it into Bahnstorm within the week...just good to have some tried and tested ways of getting them off. Just looking forward to knowing to knowing that the alignment is sorted.

Take off the two complete arms from each side of the car and do it on the work bench with a decent bench mounted vice and tools, and when you have proper access you get them open, without the need for heat.

Not that hard to take them off the car given the advantage of having them on the bench. BTDT, worth it.

Put copper grease on the new ones?

and yes I took them off and did it on the bench, still a PITA.

When you put them back on the car wrap a bit of denso tape round them and you will never have another problem with them. I also use this stuff round the coilover threads. denso tape is grease impregnated tape, put round then work it in with your hands. I believe the gas board use it round couplings
