    Mcrae at fault.

Racing driver found at fault for flying recklessly and causing crash, in which he and three others died, by judicial inquiry

Not good, from the sound of the article it seems like he pushed way to hard.

His family must be pretty shaken by the outcome.

An inquiry blames rally champion Colin McRae for causing the helicopter crash in which he died along with his five-year-old son and two family friends.

Oh my goodness - I never knew that poor lad didnt have permission from his parents to be in the helicopter... That is so gut wrenching for them.

In all honesty - it doesnt really surprise me to read that he was essentially showing off with unnecessarily low-level, high G manouvres at the time of the accident - such a tradgic, stupid, avoidable accident - in a helicopter that he wasn't actually licensed/classified to fly in the 1st place.

Don't get me wrong now - I have HUGE respect for the man and skills behind the wheel - I watched him a number of times in Ireland... he was never afraid to take risks and he had more than his share of accidents I suppose but this is such a sad story.

He stated once: Helicopters are serious machines; they are not like cars. Someone can get really hurt with helicopter.

Very bad taste, but didn't he earn the nickname "Mc-Crash it" for various reasons.

Still in awe of the man and his unlevelled comitment.

His family's statement suggested his license for that aircraft had expired (?) and that he was an excellent pilot.

To me, it's no worse than finding out that his driving license had expired and not been renewed if it had been a car accident, and that he'd been giving it a bit on the roads prior to the accident.

Of course, doing such with another persons child in the car is a bit stupid, I can completely understand they must have some anger about this. The childs parents should have been asked for permission.

But who of us hasn't taken a machine a bit further than 'sensible' limits? It does suggest he lost control of the aircraft but without black box material to know for sure there was no mechanical failure causing such it'll never be 100% certain.

It was sad to read this today
People would much rather remember him as the awesome driver that he was

Rather than the w****r who killed people needlessly showing off giving it the big un :corey:
For what this cost me so far I could have bought an S2

As a helicopter pilot I can understand the thrill of being able to fly but they are not forgiving machines. Colin was an excellent driver but to fly the way he was seen doing on that fateful day was clearly outside his level of flying experience and had terrible consequences for him and his passengers.

                            Very sad.
