UK national speedlimit to be raised to 80mph (page 2 NWS)

Just heard on the radio this is in consultation About time..

I dont think its gonna help as most people do 80-90 mph anyway and those that do 70 will probably continue to do so as they are usually older or nervous drivers who probably would be more of a danger going faster.

Personally I think its great as it means some people ( not me officer) who go slightly faster are closer to the 10% margin of speed in either direction for going the speed they usually do on the motorways.

Heard on the new's last night. I remember a study in Italy found drivers concentrated more and there were less accidents so they increased the limit! France seems to have a sensible option 70 ish in the rain or 80 if the weather is good, common sense!

Wonder if lorries will be upped to 70mph? Otherwise roads like the a12 will be interesting when they decide to pull out on someone last min to overtake at 60 another lorry doing 60...

I don't expect they'll change their attitudes to speed much, just bring a significant amount of motorists back into the law.

I still expect 100mph will be the magical "you're screwed" figure.

Or, more specifically now with quite a few sections of 8-lane motorway, shoot all the lane-to-the-left-of-the-outside-lane hogs.

I suspect its only in discussions as the governments will make tones more money as the increase in speed across the UK will prob make them millions a day on extra fuel used....

When they bring the laws to be the saw as germany and the autobahn then I'll be happy, in reality will it make any difference? but 80 is a start in another 60 years they might make it 85
