You think you'll still be given the 10% +2 margin for speedo tolerances meaning 90 is a def. pinch?Volcano ABY coupe

I would still drive at the usual 80-85... would make sense to make it 'official'. I doubt average speeds would be that different, just a few strict law abiding citizens that would up their pace a little.
Makes sense, hate all the safety / environmental groups condemning it. They'd have us all living in foam padded caves if they werein charge.AUDI - saving Dad's from minivans since 1994

I saw this on question time last night and you get these environmental idiots trying to condemn the change I think 80 mph is a start but they should do what france do as mentioned previously. Perhaps they should think of putting sections during the night when motorways are empty of no speed limit or a max speed of 120 mph??Comment

Have been saying exactly this for years. Easy to set signs to change according to the weather conditions, just in case someone doesn't realise its raining and limit is now 70mph
Most travel at 80 now anyway as new cars are just ticking over at that speed. 78mph in the 3TDi is just 2000rpm and is the speed I can set the cruise to and still get 40+ mpg

And here in Finland they are thinking of lowering the speed limits "because of emissions". Don't know what they are thinking because before on the highway it was 120km/h(~70mph), now this summer "they forgot" to change back to summer limits, so the limit is already 100km/h(60mph). I don't wan't to see what is the lower speed limit they are thinking of is...
Few years ago they "lowered" the car taxes on low emission cars(read: low co2 taxes stayed on same level and the more co2 the more you pay). Now that the car co2 output has gone a bit down they are thinking of making the taxes higher because tax incomes has gone a bit down. And they say that every time it is because of environment.
Uh, I'm getting tired on taxes and speed limits... It is nice to have to pay over 20 000 euros in taxes for a new Audi A6(then you pay 500-800 euros/year for yearly car tax) and probably next year your top speed is 80km/h (under 50mph). And I forgot to say that the Finnish police has a strict rule that if you "over speed" +1km/h(thats a bit over 0.6mph) you get a warning and at +3km/h you get a ticket.Comment

I thought it had been 80 for years, if you do 70 on most motorways everything is going past you.

The charity Brake is trying to stop the speed limit increase.
Their experts calculated that it will cost the government ÂŁ1bn in extra costs if the speedlitmit is raised.
How do these complete and utter muppets come up with this info? This article that they issued recently is pathetic.
I'm amazed how openly retarded some people can be and how much bullsh!t they dish out to the public.
I bet some people actually believe what this group stands for. They obviously have their reasons but the information they are pushing out is plain lies.
As this has wound me up a bit i tried to do some deeper digging but it looks like someone has already landed a DOS attack on their website: www.brake.org.uk - is currently offline so i emailed this peaceful appropriate message to their public relations department:

if this has been offensive then im sorry about that, please pm me or remove the image.
Edit: Personally I don't actually care about the speed limit as i don't do much driving in the UK at the moment and its never really bothered me in the past but I do have a passion for hating organisations that push lies and fear on the public, as I'm sure do most of you.Last edited by s2_bo; 22 May 2012, 21:08.91 S2 coupé - RIP

I went down to cornwall last week and you have to concentrate so hard to keep up with the flow of the traffic in the outside lane as you are doing 90 most of the time and when you want to take a breather and slow to 75 ish everything just flies past you!!! Most places in europe are at 130km which is 80 ish so why cant we????
