2.8 coupe quattro... slowest car ever?

has anyone had 1 of these? its supposed to be 170bhp but i seriously think my 1.9dci scenic would beat this thing
there's no vacuum leaks, the 2nd stage on the manifold kicks in at 4000rpm and it sounds like it has loads of potential, pulling away hard it goes ok at the lower end of the rev range but just stops pulling past 3.5k it still revs but doesn't fell as if your getting anywhere quickly. the maf has a metal plate over the centre of it which does look homemade.. is that normal? i took it out and it imediately became more responsive.
i tried scanning for codes by jumping the terminals on the diagnostic ports but i need to make a tester as theres no bulb on the clocks.
has anyone else suffered from a slow 2.8 12v v6? also its poor on petrol only managed 30 miles to 10 pound of petrol.
so any common things to check?

my 1.5 dci megane 2007 company car could keep with a 2.8 cq up to 100 mph on a private track. It surprised both me and the owner of the coupe who was throwing the kitchen sink at the project.

I've driven 2.6 and 2.8 litre v6's and they certainly dont set your pants on fire. Nice and smooth and torquey low down but just dont want to rev. Give me a 7A any day.

Have to agree- I sold on my 2.8 CQ -didn't do anything for me,tho' nothing wrong with it intrinsically, just a bit characterless(as well as gutless!)and bought back my old 7A...loved it so much I put off getting an S2 'til only a coupla yrs ago!

It sounds like yours is ******ed.

I'll add my own emotional story to the old Audi engine bashing thread. My 140k ABK 2.0 8v engine is superb for what it is. Coming from a background of Ford (lol) and BMW 16-24v engines, I was expecting it to be almost undrivable (like some reviews suggested). However, for a big car, between 1.8k and 4.9k revs it fairly holds it's own until 5th gear. There's no way anyone without prior knowledge would say it's a measly 115bhp motor.

choked exhaust? had same symptoms on my old 2.3 10valve and the cat internals had come loose and the ceramic stuff was blocking it up

                        Sam,

Could be someting wrong with it, as mentioned, the cats / MAF ?

Presumably nothing made by Audi in the MAF should look home made.

Just to endorse what Macanmar mentioned, the two v6s feel nicer than the 2.0L 16v, and the 2.6v6 auto feels more aggressive than the 2.8v6q mannual saloon, but they all pale into insignificance when you hop back into a std S2, not to mention a prj S6 auto.

After driving various cars for a few days / weeks at a time, due to always fixing one or other, , it gives one a good insight into each one.

Each car has it's place, but tbh once you gone to a chipped forced induction with quattro, everything else in a B4 is pants, regardless of how nice they look in silver.

Get your v6 Coupe to as the factory intended, but spend the real money on an S2 or S6 for real satisfaction.

After getting the S6 saloon, I'd buy another S6 saloon in silver and an S6 Avant in silver, if I had the money, they're great. Shame they're always being parted.

                        My tuppence.

Had a 2.8, 80 automatic and the performance wasn't incredible at high revs. Great for 0-30mph and kickdown 4th to 3rd 40-60mph was superb, everything else was a bit disappointing although having said that I think there was something wrong with it as it wouldn't really pull past 110.

2.8 12v should pull way past 110 I picked up a banged a few weeks ago and the clocks indicate 150 how true not sure but seemed quick enough didnt take long to get there.

I've had a 2.8cq and like the 7A engined cars they are never going to set the world alight, they feel slower than they are as the engine is lazy and doesn't like to rev, but once you wind them up they go ok. Does sound like you have a problem as whilst they are not quick cars by modern standards, I would never say mine felt slow.
