How well do cars do against bikes in drag races etc?
has anyone ever tried it with mates etc?

I think there's a fair few examples of this sorting of thing on Youtube.
    1990 B3 2.0 80 quattro.
    1992 C4 2.8 Avant quattro
    1994 MTM RS2.
    1998 B5 TDI quattro Sport.
    2000 B5 TQS.

150bhp bike is 600bhp / ton so unless you have silly bhp, you'll not do too well in a drag race.

A lap of a track is a different matter though, as braking and cornering speeds come into play and these are where a bike is weaker than a car.

There's always the matter of driver / rider skill though and this can make as much difference as the machinery itself.

          Are you sure?

I put the info into a performance calculator (first one if you google it, and admitted it came up with an error) but reckons

128 bhp with 160kg is 815bhp per ton?

If you push it as far as you can the car is always faster.

              Fastest drag bike is ~ 5.79 seconds @ 245 mph ~1300 HP

              Fastest drag car is ~4.4 seconds @ 336 mph ~ 7500 HP

this is for wheel driven, there are rocket cars that can do a quarter mile in ~3 seconds at 450 mph.

When you factor in the weight of the rider at say 100kg you have 0.49 HP per kg
the car with a 100 kg driver you have 0.36 HP per kg.

As you can see power to weight is in favour of the bike but this is only half the
story, once you get past 60 wind drag rapidly becomes the biggest coefficient and weight is less and less of an issue, at 120mph + I would think your car would have the edge.

Remember wind drag increases at the square of speed, so at 120mph there is 4 times the wind drag that there is at 60mph .

Don't be fooled into thinking a bike is small and thus has little wind drag, with the rider on they are actually very poor for there size.

Thanks for the info, that is interesting. One other thing I was thinking about was the torque difference, i've not looked into what the bike produces and I did ask him when I spoke earlier.

Well I can actually tell you from a Saturday night experience. Dual carriageway traffic lights. Me at front up against an R1. I will tell you I lost royally and gave up when I got mid way or so (red line haha) on 2nd! May as well not have bothered.

However the guy in the 56 reg 530i BMW didn't look to happy when he couldn't lose the old audi estate. Haha

Well yes, the R1 will do 0-60 in 3.5 seconds, you had no chance.

ive seen r1 against a beast of an s2 at york dragway and both were getting 11 seconds. on the really twisty stuff a bike has no chance in my experience.
