As long as you are not towing for hire and reward/business you can tow a heavy trailer on your standard car licence

I'm not sure whether to be happy about that or not.
I know 4wherldrifter a bit cheeky of Jamie Oliver
Be careful if you change from paper to photo license sometimes they remove the grandad rights without checking!

I've been looking into this a lot recently, I want to tow my Mini which shouldn't be a problem with my current license, except I need a trailer with a plate weight of less than the unladen weight of my vehicle which makes it a nightmare to hire a trailer. I've decided I'm going to try and do C+E as then I get everything below it and it would be useful to be able to drive vintage lorries. I know it will cost a lot more but at least I will not have to pay to do the car and trailer test.

Oh wow, US laws will let anyone drive a truck with a trailer. The only restrictions we have are weight. Our lowest license where I live is limited to 26,000 lb total vehicle weight and 65 feet long. What limits do you guys have? I'm just curious.

Yeah I did mine a few years ago when I use be doing my mobile DJing with heavy box trailer. Did about 2-4 hours training on what the test involved and the reversing etc you have to do followed by about a 45 min practical.

Failed first time for driving in spaces I normally would, i.e. past parked cars with oncoming traffic but didnt like that so had to retake which was annoying. Other than that its pretty straight forward, if you can reverse a trailer in a straight line you will be fine, apparently most people use a flatbed, but used a box trailer on mine

A few years avo when I was a tree surgeon I was going to be put through as I was towing double axles trailers every day. An examiner came to the yard and took me out for a practise run and said when the test came it would basically be the same. Was easy but he said to be slower and give more room to parked cars. Also he said you have to be able to line up and hook up the trailer on hour own with no one else. I left before. I took it but I don't think it's that hard. Will ask my brother as he did it a year or so ago. Let you know when I speak to him over next few days.

    Erm

We usually use my mates flatbed to move the cars but its on my list of things to sort out.

I know people that have quite recently and they said I'd breeze it as I've towed before
