What s it take to write a car off nowadays?

So no work on Wednesday due to strike so took mrs for lunch.
Come out the pub to find a note on car saying that some old Dears
had reversed into the disco n drove off.
Guy who did note got reg number n said would be witness .
I rang old bill, they came an hour later for a statement.
Owner will be charged with driving without due care n attention.
Insurance are going to look assess disco soon .
Damage is limited to front bumper, fog light n light washer.
I ve looked up prices n bumper is about £300 plus vat.
Then the fog n washer, then paint n labour, say £600+?
    disco is v reg td5 with 143k.
Is it worth repair according to them?
Then I look in the light next day n see gearbox is leaking like a sieve !
Just started , don t want go to expense n hassle to do it if car gets written off
n font want it now cos turning into a money pit, I ve a quattro for that!
Soz 4 long thread, am really pee d off about it
On a lighter note, my bargain audi gt is running now I ve messed with it !
Still want a 4x4 for winter but can't justify s motor fuel use to the mrs!

look at the trade value of the car in the glasses guide, if the repairs come to over 50% of the value they will prob write it off

TBH be better for them to write it off, you buy it back and repair it yourself. prob end up with a few quid left in your pocket to spend on the audi :-)

even though I paid less than book almost 3 years ago.
First owner was queen mother's cousin , tight git didn't spend much lookin after it!
Sod it, I ll buy an s avant instead, mrs is going work full time after Xmas and we work at same
place, I ll cadge a lift off her n save fuel money.
I knew there was a reason why I ve kept her, lol

            Manual, has tow bar
Has has this year the following replaced:-
            Both front shocks n springs
            Rear axle bushes
Ace valve block n rear ace pipes
Last year had all discs n pads ( drilled fronts ) and uprated pads
            Rear caliper
            Steering arms
Front abs sensors and hub driver s side
In 2009 had full recon cylinder head
On coils at back not air bags
5 seater, tow bar is pin type for a frame use
It pulled my White Quattro and 17 foot tilting trailer like it wasn't there
Tinted windows, side steps, wind deflectors on all side windows
Don't know what it s worth as I ve not got a glass' s guide!

Yeh, no witness no case. Other party not even told their insurance they ve had an accident according to
my company. I offered him a gift to say thanks but he says no.
Of course the blame vultures started to circle quickly n sent me forms to claim for whip lash -
silly beggars, I wasn't even in the car!
