Some facts on New MOTs and a petition against it

    Hi guys

Thought htis may be of interest to alot of you.

Basically its a brief outline about New MOT's and the New MOT with the aim of restoring classic vehicles (Thought it may be worth it being on heredue to the other new MOT thread.

On the site is also a link for a petition you can download fill out and submit to your local MP opposing the new MOT structure.

Dont know if any of it will work but thought it may be worth putting up for you all to make up your own minds and use if you want to. I know that it has been said to be a good thing the new rules but I also know alot of people are against it so this is for the individuals to make up there own minds and use if they want.

This has not been added to cause arguements over if it is right or wrong and I dont know if the petition is a real one but seeing as its on a trusted website from trusted people I thought it worth a go.

If any of the mods want to make this visible in the listings for a while for those who dont visit the forum often please feel free.

    HTH's you all.

    Thanks
    Chris

I can understand the issue with arch and tyre clearance, most of the dubbers I know don't gave any writing left on the sidewalls of their tyres which isn't safe, combined with poor camber etc is just asking for trouble.

As for the historic cars that really is a shocking rule that I know a lot of people will be against.

Just as well I'm not trying to put mine in the road as they would have a field day !

Haha, yes, I should imagine they would with yours. I think unless you have a friendly MOT man then many Dubbers are going to have issues there. I know if my mate has to follow rules then im going to have to raise my beetle back up.

that beetle in that link wouldn't even get onto an MOT ramp being that low,I agree that there are a lot of cars floating around which are plain dangerous, and quite obviously modded after the mot.

Plus i can't see my mot place pulling out each ecu and looking to see if the chips are original etc

BTW I was thinking of this on more of the petition against the changes (Second Link) as so many people seem against it.

What counts as an illegal engine mod?
Agree that some cars out there are scarily dangerous but it makes me laugh when it says the eu are bringing the laws in! Have you seen some of the states the cars are in areas of europe! I've seen cars in Greece for example made up of corrugated steel still I have seen worse made in fibreglass on these shores!

another way of getting old cars off the road and taking the fun out of doing something different.

wonder how many air ride kits get sold this year?

My MOT tester thinks their working upto a 2 year MOT test like Europe I believe.

Seats must be able to move, cannot be fixed, thats going to screw the rally and track cars over.

"seats with the capability" need to be able to move fore and aft.

Fixed bucket seats don't have the capability and should be OK.

Ah I see, its not really explained that well he said, its the later changes due in a few months he thinks will be a lot more hassle for people.

                    Time will tell !
