    A different MOT station

There's a few threads I've read on here in past, I recall that Rusty had a 200-cell jobbie fitted at Prospeed that just gets thru the MOT, i had an 034 one (I think it's the same as the generic magnaflow ones that you can buy for about 100 quid) on my Avant that made it through after several attempts and aparrently is good to 500hp or so.

Personally - I'll probably go for the cheap magnaflow, get it put in just after the downpipe, and see how it fares next time it's due. I must admit, whether it's actually needed to pass the test :mischeif: or not I lik the idea of having something that would pass a roadside test.

I have a single 100 cell race cat (occasionally) fitted and that passes the MOT.

MattS2 and myself have the 034 cat and had no issues passing.

Don't buy cheap cats, they break up very easily, Get a decent 100 cell or 200 cell cat and once warm they should get through quite easily.

Mine's 100 cell and passes the extended idle test with around 0.25% CO.

How much are cats like these then? I have a choice of either normal cats or no cats and a friendly MOT (I would like to think anyway)

My 100cell Cat takes a bit of heating up to get through but it hasn't let me down yet!

Mine is part of a complete custom exhaust system that improves upon the OE system in a few key areas. The OE DP splits just as it goes under the car and this is quite restrictive compared to a straight through 3" pipe with in-line cat.

You could have a 100 or 200 CPI sports cat made into a direct replacement assy but you'll still have to accomodate the split before the cat and replace the Y piece afterwards. The Milltek sports cat is a bit of an oddity and takes the 2 pipes into 1 sports cat and then splits again to integrate with the OE exhaust! I hope that's of some use to you.

Not of the shelf but yes they can be, basically the flanges and pipe need to be custom made to fit.

OEM for me too, once a year

Looked into replacements for our S4 and found a few places that would cut the flanges off the old units and insert some generic off the shelf cat in place. Couldn't find any aftermarket bolt in replacements. Ended up removing them all together as i legally dont need them on a 93 car.

What has changed with regards to cats and MOT test? It used to be that if there was none fitted but the car passed emissions test (not very likely) then that was acceptable, correct? Now you must have one fitted regardless? What about on older, pre 91/92 cars?
