What clutch for 420 bhp (gt3071)?

Will a standard clutch for either an ABY or 3B handle 420bhp and the relevant torque that my Gt3071 will produce? I will not be drag racing or hard launching, fast road and track days only.

The other point of consideration is should i go with ABY flywheel or 7A, i know the plus points of using the 7A flywheel but i am a bit concerned about throwing the engine out of balance as the factory engine (crank) is externally balanced.

Has anyone experienced any failures due to converting to 3B or 7A flywheel. I have previously converted my Silver ABY coupe to 7A flywheel but only covered roughly 3000 miles with it.

    Thanks,

    Dan.

    Standard clutch won't hold.

Get a Sachs Race Engineering pressure plate, and use the stock disc. This will hold.

I fitted a 3B flwheel and clutch to by ABY avant. It didn't actually feel that different most of the time, revs a bit quicker and in particular has less delay in dropping after gear changes. I guess I'd say it felt a bit more responsive and sporty. It was more noticeable in slow traffic though, not as smooth. When I did my RS2 I kept the DM because I prefer the smoother power transition of power for daily driving.

As for clutches... I ran my 428hp coupe with a Clutchnet 'carbon fibre'; this held well although I did get slip a couple of times in 5th WOT up a gradient.

For the RS2 i went with the Southbend which I'm impressed with. Slightly stiffer than stock, bite feels tame once it's got 500+ miles on it, a little grabbier than stock when you pull it in quick off the lights so if you don't want to bog down give it a bit more revs or don't pull it in so quick!

I confess, intrigue got the better of me and I did a 5k lauch a couple of weeks ago, no hint of slip by the clutch... it felt brutal on the drivetrain. I think I proved the 0-30 in 1.5s claim, and learned that my usual 'racing' off the lights routine is no justice to the RS2!

Sachs Uprated pressure plate and organic disc would be my recommendation. Works well for me, clutch is no heavier and has yet to slip with 440bhp/538nm.

I'm waiting for my clutch to give up. No problems as yet though....

I had a new OEM RS2 clutch fitted at about 55,000 miles. It's now done almost 50,000 miles (thrust bearing failed in the original) Given the new K26/27 hoffer hybrid how long can it last?

Depends on what I limit your torque to.

It's tempting to max out the torque for the stock rods and to hell with the clutch.
Fix it when it finally gives up.

                  I love the thinking

Now apply that to the rods, I dare you

I wonder what the torque limit is of the stock rods? (no knock)

Considering how much PCP spikes during knock, I don't think it's appropriate to talk about a torque limit at all

Im just ran 550nm on a clutchnet 3b clutch with full face sprung carbon disc. No slip.

550nm on the stock rods too for me. I think you will be to close to knock limit by CR before the rods will bend. If you drop CR or run e85 who knows what they can take.

550nm is not knock limit on stock CR though, you can do more...
But yeah, stock rods are bent by knock, torque is not too relevant to the problem.

Also, if you rev the motor to 7500rpm all the time, I'd look into stronger rods as well.
