    Admiral insurance

I have had a policy with these guys for over 5 years now, called today as i needed to change the car on the policy.

Okay all done and then the operator says now you have changed to a larger car you can not drive other insured cars third party policy like i have for the last year or so.

I question this as its really handy to have.

She was really serious because you now drive a large car you can no longer drive other cars third party on this policy.

    WTF i mean why?

Can any one recommend a insurer that will offer this and not worry that my car is 30cm larger than my last?

Insurance companies are removing the driving on 3rd party on other cars when possible.
Basically it was an excuse to remove it.
Surprised you had it. Another reason I told Adrian **** Up Flux to do one years ago

i'm pretty sure I have it via Sky Insurance

I've just started with hastings direct about a week ago and this came free with my policy, I can drive anyone else's car as long as its insured.

Let face it they are a law unto themselves! About time there was a revolution methinks!
I am not even sure that this third party provision is all that it claims to be either. On the face of it, it implies that you can drive other vehicles if they are already insured but I have heard that it is only applicable in emergency situations. Best to scour the small print in the actual policy, not what it says on the certificate!
There was recent example of someone moving to London only to find out that their insurer would not insure for that postcode. However Insurers won't tell you what postcodes they won't cover or why!
Then there is the 30% loading on people who lose their jobs. Talk about kicking you when you are down! Insurers argue that those people drive around all the time looking for work so they are more of a risk. Err.. highly unlikely I would say in the modern era. Not exactly getting on yer bike times is it. More likely to get RSI on the computer! Wonder if they insure against that. What with the cost of being honest and fuel, I doubt whether those poor sods go anywhere in the car unnecessarily. I would think those people who travel at peak times to and from work are more of an actual risk statistically.
Thats the real problem. If you ask the question why, which is perfectly reasonable, they are under no obligation to substantiate. They should be forced to explain exactly how they have arrived at the figures.
Its our fault. We should have put up a bond and insured ourselves like most large companies do. Unfortunately I believe that the bond is £500K now. It used to be £50K!

I am with admiral and like you james I have been with them for about 5 yrs too.I have had some dealings with them over the past year and have found them to be incompetent to say the least!
The straw that broke the camels back was I finally managed to transfer my dads(rip) private reg onto the S2 and they wanted nearly £20.00 just to update their system and send me a replacemant certificate.I told them I pay them quite alot of money on a multicar policy to cover these things, but alas they would not budge:corey:
Anyhoo like you I will be looking for someone else to insure my cars this year.

I generally take my brothers (Ross's) advice on this one...

All insurance companies (or agencies) are equally ***** (i like to think my current are exceptions, just to make me feel better, until they prove otherwise ) and as such, will screw you over equally in the event of a claim.

So, providing they provide the comprehensive level required, go with the least expensive at each renewal.

I find Aviva very good. I am covered fully comp on anyone's car - insured or not (so long as I put the trade plate on the un-insured ones ).

'Normal' Insurance policies must suck! I drive other peoples cars all the time, including on the continent!

Just received my Admiral multicar renewal through today. Section five of both state I can drive other cars. Exactly the same wording as last year.

                          5. Persons or classes of persons entitled to drive:

                          Me,

The policyholder may also drive with consent of the owner a private motor car not belonging to him/her and not hired to him/her under a Purchase Agreement, within our territorial limits, providing there is a valid insurance policy in force for that car. The Policyholder must also be driving in accordance with the terms of a valid licence and must not be disqualified from driving.
£51 cheaper this year than last. Did you know it's more expensive to insure my 2004 A4 Avant than it is to insure my 2001 RS4.
                          Go figure
                          2001 Avus Silver B5 RS4.
                          2004 A4 Avant 1.8T quattro Sport-LE.
                          1995 S2 Coupe - sold (sniff)

I have been looking at insurance policies with Laura (she is 23 and has 3months driving experience) and for £100 more than the Golf TDi i could have her on a B5 RS4 or C5 S6. I did check an RS6 just for fun and it was an extra £400. In comparison a 3.0 TDI A6 was an extra £400 as well...
