There used to be a good auto electrician in hitchin (think its this one http://www.autoinsider.co.uk/local/a...ns/ai_8310.php) that has done work for me and my family before with good results and prices when they worked on our audi's. Another person if you can get there is

    Chamberlain Auto Repair Service

    (01767) 260382
    Fax: (01767) 260382

who is absolutely brilliant with his work and has looked after my coupe quattro for a few years and my dads coupe gt (including doing electrical work) and has built ur quattro's up from bare shell's before.

Well I got the van out of a field after 4 years of being sat and have sorted it all out. I have been using it over the last year but 7 months ago it went into limp mode and wouldnt come out or throw a proper code. It was throwing something like P1550 requesting boost - A useless code with no help. After replacing everythign under the sun, all sensors, exhaust, filters, checking timing, you name it I did it, I eventually went to take the turbo off and noticed a split rubber O ring from the airbox hose to it so replaced it and it went like it should. No more limp mode so I thought. Having had the loom out I had put it back in loosely incase it needed taking out again and seeing as I though it was fixed i put the fuse box back properly and the ECU and clipped the loom casing back to where it should have been. The following morning I went to use it and it was back in limp mode so I must have disturbed a dodgy connection somewhere. Pulled the codes and it threw G71 and G72 (Two in one Map sensor) so replaced it and its still in limp mode and throwing the G71 code. So it must be a bad connection in the loom. Apparantly the 102bhp T4's suffer with wiring issues causing this all the time and I only just found this out.

When i had the loom out previously for Continuity testing (it showed all fine) I could see the loom was full of repairs ( a lot on the wires for the Map and N75 sensors) and a section of it had scorch marks and casing melting which indicates a small fire (which coicides with the burnt plastic cam belt cover in the bay) so im thinking dodgy loom. And after searching and visiting loads of yards i cant find anyone with a loom with the two ECU plugs. All the 102bhp engines I find have 1 ECU plug so Was thinking an Auto Electrician was my only option UNTIL NOW!!!! I have just found a yard with a two ECU plug loom from a year newer van than mine so Im having it even if its useless as Im sure it will come in handy one day! (And before you say it I always ask if it has the one or two plugs at the ECU. I dont say I need the two plugged one incase they only have the one plugged one but want to scr3w me over).... Lets see if it fixes my issue. Watch this space....

Oh and if anyone is thinking of buying a T4 DONT - Well unless its a 1.9 non turbo, slow as you like but reliable one!

I've got an equally slow 1995 2.4 non turbo. It's been great so far. My dad has the 2.5tdi and has had a lot of trouble lately.

It appears that he may have had a tankfull of dodgy fuel. Before we realised this we were told that it was logging a engine wiring loom fault which may have been causing the problem. I did a bit of research based on this and found that they do indeed suffer from wiring problems. It was said that it is due to the way the loom is bent in certain areas.

My dad's was a non starter and the fault pointed to a black and white wire which I believe runs from the fuse box to the ecu and is a common fault area. In the end it wasn't that but it did make me aware of the wiring problems.

Have you tried the vwt4forum for more info. Worth a search on there for more tips.

                  Alistair

                    Hi Christophski.
                    Here's Ricky's Number...
I forgot he had moved to Barnet. By the Odeon cinema.
Probably the same distance from you, but on the other side of the A1!
Tell him I sent you. (Mitch). I spoke to him just now about an invention of mine!!! That reminded me of your post! (Sorry), but he's expecting your call now!
He actually has another T4 there as we speak, so he'll be "all clued up"!!!!
He's a very honest guy and will say if he's stuck, or can't do something. And he'll ALWAYS double check with you if he's diverting from "normal". I like that! He knows we work on our own stuff too, so is happy to take the role of "can you just..."!
                    07960282823 Ricky AutoElectrickery.
Great bloke to talk to as well!
Even if you don't take it to him, he'll still be helpful and accommodating, so it really is worth a phone call!
Good luck! And keep us posted!
Oh... if you DO go, let me know and i'll meet you there! I've always got stuff for him to do on one vehicle or another!!!! LoL
                    Mitch.

                        Cheers guys.

Alastair - Yeh I thought abou thte dodgy fuel but I think by playing with the wiring and seeing it works then move the wires and it doesnt it should be fairly conclusive that this is the problem. So I hope anyway. I have a massive thread on the T4 forum too and they arent much help. My brother had a 2.4 and fitted a 1.9td instead.

Cheers Mitch, if when this new loom turns up it doesnt help I may well make that phone call and if I do go I will give you a shout.
