    Bad weekend

Jumped in the S2 on saturday morning and it wouldn't start, quick VAG-COM revealed a hall sender fault. I managed to get my fingers under the inlet manifold and wiggled the plug and it fired up, only to develop a massive miss-fire under boost

Onto Sunday and I thought I'd do a couple of jobs on the A6, replaced all the dash lights and the outside temp display bulb, got the interior lights working by fixing the wiring throught the boot lid, then decided to check the oil and water, oil is a little low and then I find it's in the header tank. Looks like a head gasket to do there

Good job the Mercedes has not sold yet, I'm off to get a beer and watch the GP

        Andy,

Might be worth taking a look at the oil cooler. These water cooled versions can fail mixing the coolant and oil.

Oil cooler is only £40 from GSF, fingers crossed that's what it is.

Initial findings on the S2 are that the hall sender plug has been crushed by the inlet manifold, causing a bad conection. It also looks like the oil seal has gone as there was oil in the cap which might explain the misfire.

On my car the plug is at 12 o clock, meaning it is being crushed out of shape by the inlet manifold. Brian Tonks told me that this is wrong and it should be around near the bulkhead. anybody have a good picture of a 3B distributor in situ?

I've taken it off and checked, but there is no way I can move the plug so I possibly have the wrong dizzy. Looks like I'll have to bring forward my plans to convert to coil packs.

The workshop manual shows the distributor as having the connector at @3 o'clock. This puts the rotor @ 9 o'clock position when all the marks are aligned.
