Why did you buy an S2?

Owned an S2 now (or 7 ) since 2005 and id hate to go to something else, makes me wonder-what is about an S2 that appeals?I found out about S2's in a little book on cars an saw a 0-60 time of 5.4 seconds! Testorossa quick.

My Audi obsession started when I was a lad and my Dad had a gorgeous met.blue type85 90cd.I think it was the 5 pot I fell for

The S2 has it all,5 pot and Quattro. When I drive one I feel the daddy....it maybe that under-dog thing...hardly anyone you speak to knows what an S2 is....until you show them at the lights!

So what made you buy an S2?

This forum, got sick of another type of car and went looking at various types of car. Got recommended an S2, i'd never heard of it, joined here, asked some questions, bought a car that was for sale on the forum that had some appealing modification
Bank balance has paid ever since

I bought an S2 last year (4th car I'd ever owned. The 3rd was a 1986 Coupe quattro) because I grew up with all different types of 5 pot audi on the drive, 1986 100 CD and a 1988 200 20v being the most memorable when I was a small kid.
Then in 2003 my dad got a 1993 Audi S4 Avant (Which thanks to Andy I found out is still on the road) and I was hooked. The speed, the sound, the quality....

Anyway when I decided to buy an classic Audi I thought the S4 was too big for just me but really wanted a 5 pot so looked at an S2, nuff sed!

confession time... i wanted a cosworth when i first got my license , i had a mk2 fiesta xr2 and a guy who lived around the corner had a ragussa green s2 coupe which he had spent a small fortune on, my cousin had a tatty old 2wd saph cos at the time and one day when we were out 'joy riding' the s2 coupe shot past us as if we werent moving. from that day on i wanted an s2...
after many many so called sporty cars, it took me 8 years to finally get one and have had mine 2years now. enjoyed every minute owning and driving and has been by far the best car ive had

It was a progression between freinds for me. Ive had my fair share of VAG cars. Mainly golfs.

Once upon a time.....I sold my Mk3 golf and went without a car for 6 months whilst i was in Uni, i thought i could do without one.... i was wrong.
My housemate bought an unusual car a 1994 Audi Coupe 2.0 (Alex, stiglet on this forum, he's not really on here any more). I loved the looks and build quality of the car, but it was a bit limp. So i started looking about and Alex came with me to look at a white 1985 Audi Coupe quattro KV. We decided to buy it between us in the end.
I loved that car, and fell in love with the 5 cyl sound track. Another housemate (Anton on this forum, he's not really on here any more either) also fell in love and ended up buying a 1990 Coupe quattro 2.3E local to our university.
Anyway my 1985 CQ got a RE2500 engine fitted and went very well... but ended up with accident damage after a track day (not at my hands i may add...)
In the end i somehow ended up in possession of a RE2500 engine and a 1990 CQ 2.3E with an engine on it last legs. A bluepeter moment later the two were combined.
My love affair with that car continues to its current state (see sig)

Grew up with 5pot Audis, my father had an 81 Coupe GT, 85 90, 86 90 Quattro, then the 93 UR-S4. My uncle also had a few, 83 Coupe GT Injection, 86 Coupe, and a UR. Got to drive a ur quattro around nuts corner race track when i was a kid which pretty much cemented my love of quattros for life. My first Audi was a 91 80 TD, then i bought the CQ20v as i couldnt afford or insure an S2 at the time. The S2 Avant sort of found me a few years back and said "buy me, buy me now!".

I really want an early 2.1 ur quattro with the fuchs alloys, square head lamps, cable operated diffs, analog dash etc. I just think they will be the ones to hold onto, rare and often overlooked as everybody wants the later models, or a 20v UR. I just need to find one at the right money..

Understated, fast, mostly practical, and the interior wasn't a let down like the Corrado I sat in.

Oh yes, I also had some redundancy money to blow at the same time as being enormously bored with the previous car.
Shocked, exhausted, hosed, bushed, dumped, chipped, mounted, filtered, gauged, packed, intermittantly wiped and braked. I mean broken. Now, about the car...

I first heard of the RS2 in about 1999-2000 in an issue of CAR magazine when I would have been 10-12 years old. Didn't much like the Porsche wing mirrors or alloys or the strip of red plastic joining the rear light clusters but it didn't detract from what that car was about. I had read up on the RS2, S2, UrS4 and UrS6 on the internet and I knew I loved them but can't have been the same reasons I do now...

After being fed up with my first car (a '99 Ibiza Sport....) I saw a coupe for sale at a very affordable price and went for it. Still didn't know much about S2s at the time but that didn't matter - it had permanent four wheel drive and a turbo! Like most people have already said I fell in love with the 5 pot sound, my favourite engine configuration of all - christ that's nerdy!

Anyway, it didn't take long for me to have an unfortunate crash up on saddleworth moor and that was the end of my S2 I now have an Alfa Romeo and, quite frankly, the novelty has worn off. When I have saved up enough money to pay for the S2 lifestyle I WILL get an Avant.

I miss being able to overtake old codgers on A-roads with ease & without a gear change, the feeling of being thrust back into the seat when the turbo kicks in and the fact that an unmodified one - especially an Avant - can look like a bit of a Q-car. A Q-car that barely anyone has heard of. If I know someone who does know what an S2 is then my respect for them immediately goes up!

in 2004 i was after a fast car and came across a car called s2,in pearl white.the moment i saw the car i knew i was looking at something special, even though i did not know a thing about it.the colour was amazing, people just could'nt stop stirring at the car.i've more compliment in s2 pearl white than the Rs2.
people just don't believe the Rs2 Audi/porsche is real,so they just turn a blind eye.
[SIGPIC][SIGPIC]/SIGPIC]92 3B pearl white=gone back home to Germany, probably in bits and pieces

RS2 VOLCANO BLACK] soon to be broken to bits

I don't actually have an S2, but I am making one For me, the first car I ever bought was a VW Corrado, that I loved, and I have owned VW's for all my life. I kept seeing all of the cool VW's that you can get with AWD that weren't sold in the USA, and had pipe dreams of converting some kind of cool VW to AWD, then I ran across the CQ, and then the S2. I was sold. We don't have too many awesome AWD cars here, especially if you don't like Subarus (which I don't), and I just could't spring for an R32.
