even without these accidents, there would be no group b these days. the plan was to launch group s in 1990 as a replacement for group b.
with less power, but even more prototype-parts.
and @ jamo: audis new car wasn´t quicker than the old one, so they stopped the unofficial project after 3 test spins

Ah not true sir the replacement car was 1000 bhp but the car was undriveable at that power in the tests

there was never a 1000 hp car.
they only tested a hand made prototype with an old training engine in styria and on a secret facility in ex-tschechoslovakia. the test driver told me, the car was rubbish.

you are right, that there were plans for a bigger engine. still I5, but up to 3 litre. much longer than the old one. they only made a few of them, but they never left the shop. so they never tested it.

I bow to your superior knowledge. I guess the rally environment will always be more uncontrolled than say f1. I went to the opening of the opening round of the British rally championships and didn't think the cars were particularly fast and that's probably why the sport is just not attracting the same sorts of crowds as it used to.

yes the speed and insanity of the cars and drivers was what drove its popularity.
I think if it had been managed properly not by that ****** Balestre they could have reined it in and still kept it as exciting and kept it going

I thought the house comparison was a strange quote... after all once a house is built its built its not moving and it will be there on the recce...

A person on the other hand can decide where to sit/stand and probably wont be there on the recce...

Shame for those that died though... the passion was out of control..
