    what do you think?

I'm thinking of starting to offer services of refurbishing parts such steering racks, brakes (standard and porsche calipers) etc as I've done it all on my car and saved many pennies! it wouldnt cost anywhere near as much as taking it to other places for the same job. could also make up fuel lines but i dont think they could be posted

but before i go rushing into things, do you guys think it would be worth my time? would there be much interest for such things?

    any feedback or comments welcomed!

Any service that offers quality work and value for money will get a good response I reckon.

Unfortunately, dealing with the general public everyday has taught me you would be leaving yourself wide open to a massive load of moaning, winging, headaches and where brakes and steering area concerned, legal action when they bin the car and try to blame you. You'd need insurance for sure, and lots of kit to keep your process costs down and keep jobs in house, then your overheads go up and hey presto you are charging the same as a commercial shop. Sounds harsh but its reality unfortunately

That is very good advice, believe me, I deal with the general public everyday and it's not enjoyable.

That said don't abandon your ideas, just be careful who you do work for and make sure you have some sort of proper insurance based disclaimer protection. Should you encounter a 'problem' with a customer's car this will prove invaluable.

Will maybe your skills would be better used designing and making pimp custom stuff with leftovers at work?

As an electrician I have to have liability insurance almost by law now, and it's good value when compared to other insurances.

Don't work for idiots, perhaps keep it forum based to begin with, keep you feet on the ground so to speak.

Ill have a set of fuel lines if you do take the plunge

I totally agree with all of the above. Done the right way I think you could make a go of it.

Make sure you cover most of your costs up front or you'll get burned a few times and give up. Also make sure you have a contingency to cover anything going wrong, be that a spare rack or callipers that you can use to replace any that you break!

It would all be purely forum based to start, its going to be something for the evenings, basically to fund the end of my project and start of an engine build! Liability insurance isn't too bad to get and I have all the resources around me now to get the job done properly!

Rjscotty, if you want some help doing fuel lines, I don't mind helping you out one day, I'm usually around Bham a lot as my car is down in bromsgrove.

Who fancies some tubular subframes I've got a few things on the drawing board right now!

sounds like a good idea. As said above, forum based is the way to go for now. Tubular subframes would be cool.
