I just last week bought one of the cheapest availaible on ebay from here
It came with a cd with vcds lite and 409-1. Instructions for installation were a bit iffy but it's really not that hard to get working.

And a 2x2 adaptor from here

Had it all working within a couple of hours, if you don't need the latest vag-com and 409-1 is enough then this will be fine.

depends what you need to diagnose..if its not "can" based then the one colesy linked is good

Very fast delivery from HK and cheap as chips. Their HEX-CAN USB lead wouldn't load the supplied drivers so we went off the Ross Tech and downloaded VCDS11.11 and used the OE lead drivers. Works a treat and all modules are fully unlocked.
