Temporary number plates in the UK

How is it in the UK if you want to buy a car to drive it outside? Are there temporary plates and insurance? How much do they cost?

    cheers

uk law says that a vehicle needs to be taxed, mot'ed and insured to run on uk roads..there is no such thing as temporary number plates here

trade plates are for trade use only ie whe a car has no tax and can only be used by the "trade"

        No, he means "transit plates"

Pretty sure this is not an option in the UK, because plates stay with a car for life (unless you choose private plates for some reason..)

I see....so If a buy a car in the UK it has to be transported on a trailer or something. In Germany there are the so called Zoll plates for car to be exported.

your insurance company should be able to insure a car through the chassis number

Yes it is doable. But that means the car will be on the sellers name?

How much would it cost to have the car registered to me? Do I need to live in the UK for this or can I just register it and then make an insurance over here with the VIN number?

It's down to your local laws theres been a few members on here who have bought RS2 in the UK and drove it home. If it's got tax and mot you can get temporary insurance cover for the day to drive it off uk shores, then you have to have insurance for the continent.

Taking your car out of the UK - when VAT is not payable on a car you're exporting, procedures, registration and vehicle tax.
