own unit?

Hey guys,

So who on here rents their own unit? Im interested because ive been searching for ages now for a place to store and work on my car, and for future projects. However ive had virtually now luck. Legalities such as business rates etc are making it a really expensive prospect and even though im in full time employement im struggling to justify spending over 400 pound on a place to.work.

Just wondering if anybody has experienced similar problems?

It's a great idea and I'd up be for sharing a place in Bristol if anyone else is interested.

Retro Rides have a section just for garage sharing and some of them on there have created great communities around their shared spaces. It would be nice to have a similar section on here to get folk together sharing costs of suitable space to strip down and rebuild their S2's.

Are you saying to do paying work for others from the unit, I don't quite understand what you mean? If so then yes - that has always been my intention.

I rent a unit and it qualifys for small business tax relief so I pay no tax.

Water and electric are metered.

Isn't the relief based on the annual rental charge being below a certain threshold. Ive never managed to figure it out...

I've got a unit shared with a good friend of mine and we don't pay any business rates. I'm very fortunate as the water is free and the electric is on a pound coin meter and is only 10p a unit so really cheap (off the top of my head its about £30 a year and I'm up there a lot.)

Unfortunately most units for rent are for small business so are charged by the landlord accordingly. The "business park" my unit is on has only 2 business among the 25 units and the rest are for private use like mine.

I know this info wont be useful for anyone but keep looking for somewhere and eventually something will turn up. It took me over 12 months and 3 months on a waiting list to get mine.

Possibly +1 Depending on costs.

Possibly +2, probably just to store 1 or 2 cars and for occasional work on them. Would be very dependant on cost and location.
