Bad run of luck with S2

So as some of you may have figured out from my recent posts I am having some issues with the avant... After 3 or so years of relatively trouble free motoring things have started playing up.

After doing a simple little job of changing the rad switch on Saturday mornign I have figured out the head gasket is leaking water and pressure on the turbo side of the block. Basically pressurising the system showed it up (I was at a mates garage doing it so he decided to have a play and inspection)

So I have got to do the headgasket and whilst im there im doing the valve stem oil seals. My mate has said to see if i can get an uprated headgasket and having searched on here I get the name "Victor Reinz". is this one an uprated gasket? I also see they do a kit with all the seals. From another post I have got the following part number 02-29335-01

Is the above the correct part number for a gasket kit for a 93 ABY? Any pointers of where best to look to get one? Also can anyone point me in the direction of head bolts and partnumbers etc?

Kinda glad I found this info out as I was starting to lose my rag with the list of issues that have reared their ugly heads in the last month. I have been working through fixing each and every one of them. Kinda didnt need this either as im in the exchanging process on my first house so kinda broke... Oh well. All bad timing.

    Thanks in advance
    Chris

You can get the gasket set a lot cheaper than the above
Do the guides too. From what JP says normally you only need to do the exhaust side and they're not that expensive while the head is off and in bits. IIRC its about £10 - £12 a guide inc a new stem seal and he's only up the road from you

Agree, a lot cheaper plus more polite service.

Gsf in northampton had them for around £67 last time I got one.

Think Victor Reinz is considered OEM but you can only get the metal HG now, nothing uprated required there, proven in plenty of cars running silly boost. You need to be more concerned about the head lifting that the HG giving out.

Good quality product, decent price for the kit. Tps want 40 quid just for the rocker gasket... No brainer to buy the kit.

only downside to metal headgaskets is:

IF the head is slightly pitted it may leak water, as the paper one plugs the gap slightly over the corrosion pitting

this is common on 2.2 20v heads and most other performance stuff ive come across.

there are products you can buy to help prevent this while building the head back up, if the head is still pitted after it is skimmed

                            Sean.
