    380-400bhp= how much £££££'s

Hi guys, I was just reading another thread and see there are a lot of intelligent peeps on here who know the best way to tune our cars, we know that people will go in different directions with tunning and will tune the way they want thier car set up,
I'd like 380/400 max, but would like the car to pull most of the way through the rev range, what would this entail and wot would be the rough cost, ohh and who would do it 93 ABY (cracking engine to start with 98k)

looking at about £1500 upwards depending on which route you take, how much stuff you find secondhand and how in depth you want the build to be. Don't forget that your clutch may need doing though, and that can be from £500 fitted upwards, depending on what spec you go for.

It's the how long is a piece of string question in that the price is going to be affect by what route you choose i.e what clutch / what turbo / stock ecu mapping or aftermarket ecu new parts or 2nd hand

Before going down this route I would ensure your engine is in top condition with a health check, open it up change the headgasket and check bore wear. The engines are now a bit too old to be slapping power upgrades on without really giving them a good going over.

I'd say for reliable 400 bhp with a healthly engine 2-4k it depends on how bullet proof and reliable you want it.

Depends he's said above he can do everything apart from the tuning, so in this case it's more a case of building your spec up

380-400 is quite easy to get too with modern parts in reality you will end up with 420 bhp imo from a kkk hybrid or garrett turbo ( or more exoctic choice compturbo or precision )

Pick your turbo and manifold and work around this as you will then know what supporting parts you will need

slippery slope to the full engine rebuild as most will tell you

Your right Error the problem is you need to know in advance if it needs it or not, i've know quite a few members on here have been caught out when it comes to their projects when they've found they need to have the block rebored with oversized pistons due to wear.

I went for the RS2 setup as everything on the car could cope with it and it was pretty much bolt-on, with the only thing that required some tweaking being the downpipe, as the turbo moved relative to the S2 EM. Yes, it's limited to below the power band you quote but then complete setups are avialable for £1k or less and chips are avaialble for motronic at very sensible money. If I was to go for a custom remap then I'd bolt on a kkk k26/27 and have it mapped safe on some suiotable injetors to the low 400s with sensible torque for my stock clutch and bottom end.

The problem with opening up the engine is that you might as well then fit a turbo that is going to make use of it all and that in turn means that you may need a new clutch and fancy EM or inlet pipework to make the most out of that...

I think Jamo had it right early on. Pick a turbo and power figure (based on sound advice) and build the car to that and not much more, unless you have at least the £5k quoted above. I chose a 3071 as my dream turbo many year ago and started to piece together the bolt-on pieces that were required for it. The only thing I didn't spend money on was the clutch and now I regret it, as I it's the limiting factor, even on my RS2 setup (although, despite being a stock 3B item, it's not slipping with 350+ftlbs like opinion said it might).

It's funny how many times this has been covered but I think there's so many options and there is new tech all the time that TBH, I don't mind it, in fact it's interesting to hear what the latest ideas are.

                        What about a 3071 GTX?

GTX3071 is a 450-500 bhp turbo I love how the bottom range options now give you so much power

I'd always build well beyond what you aim to achieve. The reason our engines and drive train is so hardy is it is over engineered, and that's how I'd want to keep it. Power is nothing without reliability
