The small one is a stock size ( I've posted sizes on here somewhere ) the big one is not, and is so far proveing hard to find.

      Diff oil seals

Have you tried Abbey Seals in Dublin? They are located in an industrial estate off the old Long Mile Road. If you could get the part number and/or the dimensions of the seal they might help. They have helped me find the weirdest of seals over the years.

I will give them a try, cheers for that. Trying to get another diff for the moment so i can remove the seals from the old diff and source replacements. Its so bad i'm going to have to wash the diff before the NCT

Given how many cars this diff is fitted to I find it hard to believe the seals are NLA. Unfortunately I'm one of those who can no longer access Vagcat.com to look them up.

            Rear diff seals

This is the correct part number but can anyone verify if it looks to be the right seal?

              016 409 399 B small seal (45x60x8)
              017 525 400 A large seal

The small one is used in almost every model. The larger is extensively used also, but not as much as the small. It would not make any sense that these have gone NLA.
