Today I was out in the quattro and I was cruising along a the dual carriageway when I saw an R8 approaching. Had a closer look and it was the V10 model.

Well, I comfortably kept up and almost passed him from a third gear pull from about 50-90!!

If anything I started a car length behind. I know he was trying because I heard him crack down a couple of gears and the V10 sang

Not bad for a 28 year old car modified in a shed!

It was only a short stretch, but it was enough to surprise him, was hoping to pull up alonside him at the roundabout and just smile/give the thumbs up, but he carved a few people up and shot off.

Always good to hear that somebody has been Quatted!haha. I was out a short run today in the 90Q and spotted an porsche up ahead with the roof down. He pinned it as he got on the motorway but a GTD golf cut out in front of me as i put the foot down and he was gone. What sort of power are you running?

Yes, don't get me wrong, the R8 is an amazing all round car and I was lucky that the road was not twisty.

Not sure about power at the moment, about 430bhp, maybe a bit more. Will get her on the rollers as soon as I get a chance.

Not surprising at all
From your FATS time, we determined your 3rd gear 60-90mph to be around 2.8s.
The R8 V10 does 60 to 90mph in 3.2s (or more). This is regardless of it being a 3rd gear pull or a 2-3rd for the R8. 3.2s is as fast as it goes.

Simple test data gathered from a £6 Vagcom cable can make us correctly predict the outcome of the typical friendly highway encounter much better than random peak hp numbers off a dyno.
