    Big hello to the forum

Greetings. First post,so just trying it out. Have been dreaming about owning a s2 for a year or so know. I was at first looking at a saab 900 turbo, But not a lot about and not in black. Anyway that is all behind me know. Starting a new job on monday, with loads better pay. So after a month or two will be able to put a few quid away ,and save up for my dream motor.
First question is what am i likely to pay for a nice car. Dont mind spending a few quid on bits and bobs, but nothing that needs a rebuild( i am a joiner ,so if it is not made of wood i am knacked).
Second question is insurance. Not told the wife about my dream car yet(she will only put a dampner on it). But i am 47 and no points or convictions. Will only be using it as a second car and will be stored away through the winter. Live in a medium risk area in cheshire. Only a rough idea folks.
Have been looking around the forum and it is sweet. Love the gallery of cars and advice from the experts. Thanks paul

Hi Paul and welcome to the site. You've certainly come to the right place for advice! These guys are by far the most knowledgeable and helpful I've ever come across

I can't advise too much on current prices, as I bought a knacker for £2k as a long term project. If I could start over again I'd definitely pay for the right car to start with, as coming from a BMW background I was quite shocked by how many S2 parts are now NLA and the price of those that are available!

        Hi Paul and

The wealth of knowledge and information on this forum is incredible so you've come to the right place. You've made a good start looking around here and hopefully will have picked up some helpful advice when searching for an S2.

I think insurance is generally very reasonable, especially when compared with similar cars from other manufacturers. The S range of Audis seem to have slipped under the Insurance companies' radar. My modded S4 is silly cheap to insure!

Prices seem to range a great deal and as stated above would start at around £2k but at that price be prepared to throw a shed load more at it to turn it into something half tidy.

I would suggest that you look for a clean, well looked after example which may have had a few of the favoured mods such as brakes, stage 1 remap, exhaust and perhaps some nice larger alloys and a suspension upgrade. These cars usually turn up for sale here first as the members move on to something else. In fact there's a fantastic example for sale at the moment. Click here...

I know Dan very well and he's gutted to be selling it. It's been garaged most of it's life and never wanted for anything. Oh yes and its Black!!

        Good luck with the search!

Simply put, you're looking at £2k-8k depending on what you want and what's been done to it.

Insurance on a stock car is very cheap for what it is. If the turbo has been changed and it's running big power then you'll pay a bit more but still less than something like a Porsche or M BMW, especially when you look at the performance that a tuned S2 has compared to these options.

Decide on Coupe or Avant and if you want a sorted one with low miles or one that needs a bit of work and take it from there. Don't forget that the Coupe has both the 3B and ABY engines and that for about £10k upwards, you can get the RS2

Good luck with it all, they're a very useable and fast car that are worth a bit effort to get right
