abit worried about front UFO brakes as they still on, aircon compressor probably on its last legs, some rust most on doors bottom, gearbox little dodgy going downhill on down gears - so far info I got from seller.. Any other guides of near future money pit faults to look for?

UFO brakes can be changed but they have worked since the car was built.. Aircon compressor easy to change.. Gearbox dodgy?? Rust wise the car is aging and requires minor attention - there are better versions out there but then again they cost ££ which does not guarantee non mechanical failure.
I would if having doubts walk away as it will always play on your mind.. But thats my sole opinion only.
Poor boy, do you personally know this car? I just looking for second opinion from experts as its my first its urs4

I had someone with some good knowledge regarding S2's / S4's / RS4's / RS6's etc look at it for me - I was advised not to buy it to just break it for the engine as it would be a waste of a good car.. But you are right and I do apolgise that I am not an expert and will now back away.
Sorry that came out wrong I didn't mean to insult , I meant that's why I'm here on this forum looking for advise from experts meaning everybody. How much would you give out of 10 for the mechanical state ? Bodywork doesn't worry me. Cheers
As with any old car, within the 1st year, getting it to the standard you would want a car to be in, you're looking at 2 grand minimum to get most of the problems, minor or not sorted. Then there's body work but that's something different altogether.
The S2 I bought so far owes me about £1500 and even it was in pretty good condition when I bought it, just sorting out any issues the car. Radiator, condenser, pipework, spark plugs, coil pack etc is to be expected. In the end it's worth it but the overall condition of the car and how well it was looked after should dictate how the ownership will go..
As for the compressor, that shouldn't be too much of an issue, and the gearbox might not take as much as you might think to sort it out..
Good luck and hope you can make the right decision, hopefully more opinions from other members on here
Thanks  I agree every new second hand car you buy it's all service and other care at first instance is a must specialy for classic . I use to own few c4 quattro avants all were tdi's ael, great reliable cars, so I would think s4 pretty much the same apart of engine. would 182k mileage on aan indicate that overhaul engine rebuilt coming soon?

Benza - Have just spoken to Ash (Mr Car Viewer) and he states 7-8 out of 10 for mechanics, although states change the brakes and change gearbox oil??
182K? Cars are running 300,000 miles in Europe with same engines.. it is your cash so really is up to you
I think it is reasonable for what you're getting, even if it has a high mileage, as long as it was serviced regularly and with good oil, mechanically it should still run great
