    Gearknob moving, AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!

    bit of a rant, sorry..........

does anyone elses gearknob spin round for no reason?

it is tight, and loctite`d but the f..kin thing STILL keeps turning in various directions mind, that is either while being driven or while stood locked up and un touched!!

    AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH

    its driving me mental!!!

why`s it doing this, is the linkage at the bottom of the stick turning or summat?

    HELP! , please

    that is all, thankyou

You spin me right round..sorry couldn't resist!

Is this on the 80 or the a4?

Could be the linkage since they aren't the best of quality, I think I saw somewhere stronger linkages being made, not sure if they were ever produced.

this is for the B4 Quattro

doesnt matter if i drive it or if it stands still, centre up the 1 2 3 4 5 R so it sits level, hour later and the £*%%$($%* thing moves like 90degrees!

dont matter how tight the gearknob is, it still moves!

i dont want to fit an aftermarket one,

      solutions to my problem,

remove gearknob and mark the shaft in a position and see if it moves,

change gearknob from one of my A4`s (these are HUGE!! dont wanna do that lol)

      any other ideas?

Had a similar thing on my dad's sorento except it was just the number bit so I did away with it in the end .

Would pulling off the gaiter help see what's moving about?

              Edit:

Then maybe the gaiter isn't properly secured?

the gaitor is tight on my knob ( LOL!!! sorry!)

like i said previousley, i guess the only way is to remove the knob, mark the lever shaft and see if that moves,

if it does, its a psycotic linkage
if it doesnt, its a dodgy knob, will bin it and buy a new one, or good used URS4 one or summat

just wondered if anyone had similar problems with their floppy knob lol

How does the inside of the knob look, maybe it seems like it's securing but it's actually not tightening as it should.

                  Floppy knob

                  How bout this one?
