Grrr- iphone & car car stereo bluetooth problem

    Grrr

I just bought a £300 Alpine car stereo, partly because of the bluetooth music streaming feature... and within two weeks of installing it.. APPLE have upgraded their iOS on the iphone..and it means the phone and the stereo no longer talk to each other properly.

BEFORE the Apple update, I could control the music on my iphone from the stereo head unit and it displayed song info etc.. NOW it does not ! You have to start all music an control it from the iphone.

This is really flaming annoying ..and searching Apple forums it seems a lot of people have this problem.. and Apple are doing the usual thing of blaming the other manufacturers for not keeping up.

It means I now have to wait for Alpine to get round to creating an update

    Grrrr

(takes a breath and drinks some coffee)
    SOLD !

I know it's easy to be smart after the event but IMO it's always better to wait and see what's in an IOS upgrade before going for it especially as it's nigh on impossible to go back.

Apple often take away as much as they add so if there's a feature you rely on by waiting you can find out if it's still there.

Apple and Bluetooth is a nightmare which is why my iPad is jailbroken so I can use a Bluetooth GPS.

Alpine will release an update for the headunit but that could be ages away. If you can live with it wired in for the time being. I wouldn't jailbreak my phone as apple wouldn't touch me if I had any issues. And they will always replace your phone for free or a cheaper price than buying out right

I have a 133 Alpine headunit and HTC Android phone and that's pretty ropey on the BT so hopefully Alpine will get their act together and make it all better for all of us...

There's no untethered reliable jailbreak for IOS6 as far as I'm aware.

Yeah my Alpine works fine on the BT hands free phone.. and you can play music through it.. you just can't control the phone music with the stereo controls as I used to be able

ONE SOLUTION: Step back and re-install the previous Apple iOS 5 :

Have to agree with the anti Apple bridgade. I boycotted Apple a long time ago. They are the worst of the worst IMO.

No decent R&D, no proper revenues given to countries that support their inferior but fashionable products and they are brilliant at selling closed systems that are updated as much a woman's handbag collection, rendering your old stuff suddenly unfashionable. Only slightly ironic.

It is all about SSD's these days. Recently got a Vertex 4 and it is immense. Best £80 I ever spent in my life (apart from fuel for the S2)

Unfortunately, that won't work as the folks have said who've tried it further down the posting. If you've not saved what are known as your SHSH blobs you can't go back. Apple log your device as you upgrade and then stop you going back.

I think there's a lot to admire in Apple's products but they certainly have you by the b**ls

YUP - Apologies all round. I only spotted that the fix of down grading your iphone to iOS5 DOES NOT WORK for most people when I got home and started reading it fully.

                            REF APPLE :

Excellent products and fantastic customer service - my iphone was 13 months old and developed a home button problem - Apple replaced the phone no questions. I have a FIVE year old Macbook, which is still a stunner - and again Apple replaced the keyboard and top case FREE earlier this year (on a 4.5 yr old product!!).

                            REF ALPINE:

I emailed Alpine to ask if they were planning anything. this is what they said..sounds hopeful:

"Hi, this is a classic example of how Apple think different by employing Bluetooth firmware that does not have backwards compatibility..
Our engineers are working on this issue with the AVRCP and metadata display...

Please be aware that you can plug the i-phone into the USB socket and fully search the i-phone for your music, plus it will keep it charged

Hopefully in the next few weeks we will have a solution... "

                            Fingers crossed
