Question for the s2 engine...

Hi, have a question about the s2 engine and the g60 gearbox... If i can put the s2 engine in vw golf using the g60 gearbox and the syncro... readed some time ago that the gearbox used for i5 is the same for v6 v8... so if i want to do this i have to look for a custom flange or i can use the gearbox from vw t4 2.5 tdi syncro ? Sorry for the dumb question and the bad english 10x for answers

You do realize the S2 engine and transmission is oriented longitudinally (parallel with the centerline of the car) whereas the VW Golf/Jetta/BORA/Audi TT are transverse (perpendicular to the centerline of the car)? The Audi V6 and V8 are also longitudinal engine/transmission combos.

yep but my question was on putting I5 engine in vw golf transverse using gearbox from some syncro model like the g60, if the g60 box fits the I5 engine

I have seen it done in a golf, transverse
Mounted, don't know what gearbox was
used but my guess is older vw box
would mate up as the early vw 4
cylinder engines were audi
engines and you can put a 5
cylinder in a audi that had a
4 cylinder, such as an audi
80 16v.

10x for reply is there any change on the connection of i5 to the gearbox ? i mean the places of the bolts or they are the same all, the 2.4, 2.5tdi and the 7a etc ?

you need a transporter/caravelle T4 gearbox,

thats what the mk4/bora 24hr lemans cars used in the 5 pot TDi race cars

I'm sure vagparts mentioned that as well when I was talking to them before they shut up shop when talking about some of the conversions americans are doing.

Surely not stock though? I have a t4 syncro (2.4D) and the gearboxes are known for being pretty fragile...

Look out for one from a 2.5 TDI they are apparently stronger built to handle the extra power. If you do find one and for whatever reason don't want it then drop me a PM...
