I guess book values are always disputable, but agreed values make things simpler, the only potential issue is that some insurers only offer agreed values on classic car policy and those policies dont use a NCB, so unless you have another car to maintain your NCB you could lose it after 2 years and be back to square one...
I'd go as far as to say that with a good insurer (and broker support if necessary) an agreed valuation is not necessary. Unfortunately some insurers aren't as good as others, also, unfortunately also the vast majority of people only want insurance to be legal, not to actually protect their pride and joy.

When the engine loom in my 3B S2 fretted on the dipstick tube I was put off making a claim due to the fact I was told the repair cost would probably be around half the value of the car, in that event it was likely to be written off.
I just couldn't see the car written off as the damage didnt seem to extensive. On further investigation it turned out to be a fire old job.
As a result the car has been in my workshop for 8 years now waiting to be sorted.
However I was looking through the site last night and found a 'how to' on taking the dash out. So at half 10 last night I went out and made a bit more progress.
Its a shame that the car has been off the road for so long but I just couldn't see it written off.

I have had good experience with Lancaster on the RS2, asked them what their guide figure was on the RS2 and was told 'at least 10k' about a month ago.

You just hold out, drag it on for months if needs be, some magic guide that puts cars at 20% value isn't going to be a very robust defense in court... When storage bills start exceeding their valuation of the car they should get a bit more reasonable.

Glad it worked out for you.

....and that repair price probably excluded the lights, grilles etc. Which they will re-use
