S2 got stuck in the snow - My own stupid fault!

I used the S2 to get to work today, main roads were bumper to bumper so I decided to take a country road shortcut shortcut over some hills! Sad to say the car didn't make it and I had to turn back.

I passed about 5 stranded cars on the hill (which goes on for 1.5 miles) and to be fair the S2 never broke traction. Problem was that at the top there was over 1ft of snow and it grounded itself. (around the towns and lower areas theres only a couple of inches so I didnt expect that. Probably didnt help that the only tracks on the road were from a tractor which left the middle very high. A slight amount of digging out and I was abe to reverse back down the road into a disused farmyard and turn.

Lesson learned, even on snow tyres, the S2 isn't a tractor!

Still, no damage done and I was very impressed by what it was capable of. Plain stupidity to try it but it got progressivley worse as I went up the hill and I didn't want to stop and turn. Was only a 1/4 mile from the end by the time it got stuck.

Problem I've been having, even here, isn't the grip level as such, it's the sheer volume of snow. Trying to get out this morning it just kept building up a bank of snow in front of the car.

You'll need to get some winter spec suspension next!

What you need is a plough attachment for the front bumper so that the snow is driven to the side and does not build up in front.
My uncle made one from a piece of aluminium and it worked a treat and he didn't even have 4wd!
I though about making one up from fibreglass but don't get enough snow were I go to warrant it.
My uncle lives in Scotland and his drive is 200 yards long, he mad this when his disco
refused to start one winter about 3 years ago.

That would look fantastic on the front of an S2.

best situation would be to put the s2 in the garage or some kind of dry storage over the winter and buy a 'proper 4x4' as a winter hack, the pajero i bought is literally un-stoppable, jap crap i know but it does the trick in the snow and manky back roads...

I use both- my faithful old CQ takes the S2's duties and my trusty Mk3 Hilux does the heavy stuff!

If keep quattro in garage why do not sell it and use a rwd only in summer...
                      About offroaders:
proper 4x4 should have small distance between the axes
If using quattro in big snow(because need to,not because we think it is an offroader)high suspension and center differencial lock helps a lot.

That is not an offroader. That is a quattro a little higher. And if it has not lockable diferencials it is not even a quattro
"no stoping that"..First thing that will stop that car is side spoilers that will suspend the car on a big rock/log etc

i put the coupe away in the winter to help save it from the tons of salt / grit they put down on our roads... i cant see any problems with that???
4x4 with short wheelbase is perfect for farmers or people who go off roading for fun but for familys are pretty un practical, i know this from experience too...
